Who is this Jesus ? (Powerpoint Sermons)

An excellent documentary that uses both conservative and liberal scholars to show why we can have faith in what the Bible teaches us about Jesus Christ. It presents scholars on both sides of the equation, including skeptic Helmut Koester of Harvard Divinity School, Jewish scholar Amy-Jill Levine of Vanderbilt, anti-fundamentalist John Dominick Crossan, co-founder of the Jesus Seminar, conservative scholar Bruce Metzger of Princeton Theological Seminary, and conservative history professors Edwin Yamauchi of Miami University in Ohio and Paul Maier of Western Michigan University.

Ultimately, “Who is this Jesus?” comes down clearly on the side of traditional orthodox Christian theology, but it does so after examining the evidence. It even fairly points out the context for the liberal points of view, such as the deconstructionist bias of the Jesus Seminar.

The program is carefully made, using Jewish scholar Amy-Jill Levine to lambaste the Jesus Seminar for being anti-Semitic since the Jesus Seminar is in the tradition of German higher criticism, whose sole purpose was to purge Judaism from Christianity, which, by the way, is rather hard to do since Jesus was Jewish.

The program also looks at the Bible as a reliable historical text compared to other texts of antiquity. It also revisits sites in the Holy Land where scholars think Jesus walked and taught, and was crucified, according to the Bible and according to ancient Roman and Jewish historians. Viewers see the most ancient texts of the Bible and examine the discussions of their authenticity. Finally, the program examines the evidence for the physical resurrection of Jesus, the foundation for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Paul Washer in Bucharest, la Biserica Evanghelica Romana

Vizita lui Paul Washer la Biserica Evanghelica Romana din Str. Carol Davila, Bucuresti in data de 16 Mai, 2010.

Paul Washer: “Voi vorbi barbatilor, tinerilor si celor casatoriti.

On the subject of Christology there is a difference between the person of Jesus and the work of Jesus. Who He is. What He did. …we understand that who Jesus was and is, had considerable influence on what it was He did. And by the same token, if we want to understand who He was, we have to look at what He did. So, even though we may distinguish the two, they must ultimately be held in unity.

Glory to God!!!

  • Psalm 8:1 – A Psalm of David. O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.
  • Hebrews 1:13 – He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high
  • Philippians 2:9-11 – Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
  • Romans 3L23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
  • Colossians 1:27 – To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
  • John 11:40 – Jesus said to her, “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?”
  • 1 Corinthians 10:31 – So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

The Names of Jesus

Names of Jesus

from James MacDonald’s sermon December,2011 at Harvest Bible Chapel.via his radio ministry Walk in the Word.

Jesus’s names are most important of all.

Isaiah 9:6 …and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor…

His name shall be called….His name is the most important name…You know you learn so much about someone from their name.

When the Bible tries to describe to us Jesus Christ and who He is and what He is like, it uses names. He has many, many, many names to communicate many things about the manifold nature of His incredible, awesome character.

Let me just read through some of these for you, and just listen and just let them wash over you:

The Bible calls Jesus: Alpha and Omega, Ancient of Days, Anointed One, Bread of Life, Bridegroom, Bright and Morning Star, Brightness of His Glory, Christ, daystar to Arise, Emmanuel, I Am, of course Jesus, Lamb of God, Lily of the Valley, Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Lord of Lords, Light, Mighty God, Morning Star, Holy One of Israel, Good Shepherd, Resurrection and Life, Rose of Sharon, Shepherd, Son of God, son of man, Son of Righteousness, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace and Worthy.

All of these names are statements about Jesus Christ and who He is. You can learn so much about the Savior just by undertaking a study of His name. And so, when the Scripture says “His name shall be called “, that’s the Almighty God designating, “These are the things I want you to know about the Savior, Jesus Christ!”

In fact, in the New Testament the entire drama of the beginning of the church of Jesus Christ… our spiritual descendants, our spiritual parents back how many centuries?… the battle was raging around the subject of His name. From the Book of Acts we learn that they were saved in His name.

  1. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no othername under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12.
  2. They were baptized in His name. Acts 2:38 Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.
  3. They were healed in His name. Acts 3:6. Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”
  4. They suffered in His name. Acts 5:40 and when they had called in the apostles, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. Then they left the presence of the counsel and rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer for the name.
  5. Dying for the name Acts 21:13 Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

WOW. Jesus’s names. Names are important. Jesus’s names are the most important of all.

Colinde Romanesti 2 – Nicaieri nu-i ca acasa

PAGINA cu COLINDE click aici.

Este estimat (in Wikipedia) ca sunt aproximativ 8 milioane de Romani in diaspora (in afara Romaniei si a Moldovei). Fiecare ne-am nascut in neamul in care Dumnezeu ne-a rinduit.

From the book cover:

For over thirty years, John Piper has been trumpeting the truth that “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.” He calls it Christian Hedonism.

The problem is that many people, after being persuaded, find out that this truth is both liberating and devastating. It’s liberating because it endorses our inborn desire for joy. And it’s devastating because it reveals that we don’t desire God the way we should.

When you discover the biblical truth that God commands our happiness in him, the absolutely urgent question becomes: What can I do if I don’t have it?With the heart of a pastor and with radical passion for the glory of Christ, John Piper wants to help you answer that question.
