Intrebare: Ce i-ati raspunde cuiva care spune: „Eu m-am nascut in religia mea si nu vad de ce ar trebui sa o schimb?”

Biblia vorbeste despre religia adevarata si da de inteles ca daca exista o religie adevarata, atunci exista si o religie falsa. Nu este neaparat un lucru rau sa te nasti intr-o anumita religie. Dar aceasta nu inseamna ca esti mantuit. Poti sa te nasti in religia adevarata, intr-o familie care sa te duca la o biserica adevarata unde sa experimentezi religia adevarata a crestinismului si sa ajungi la credinta in Hristos… in cazul acesta este extraordinar. Nu trebuie sa schimbi asta. Poti insa la fel de bine sa te nasti intr-o religie falsa, intr-o religie care nu intelege si nu comunica Evanghelia. Poti sa te nasti intr-o religie in care sa te faca sa-ti pui increderea in religia respectiva si nu doar in Christos…

Iar daca te gasesti intr-o religie falsa, daca te gasesti intr-o religie care arata mereu si mereu spre tine insuti spre ceea ce poti tu sa faci, spre ceea ce poti tu sa realizezi, sau spre lucurile pe care altii din aceeasi religie le fac asupra ta sau pentru tine, atunci esti intr-o religie falsa, care, culmea, te indeparteaza de adevar. Adevarul despre pacatul tau si despre nevoia ta de justificare si totodata de calea adevarata spre sfintire. Noi suntem nu doar justificati si declarati neprihaniti, ci suntem facuti efectivi neprihaniti. Iar Biblia arata foarte clar ca fara sfintenie, niciun om nu il va vedea pe Dumnezeu, si ca neprihanirea este produsa in noi de harul lui Dumnezeu prin aceleasi mijloace… si nu prin aderarea la regulile impuse de oameni, ci prin transformarea noastra. Pavel spune in 2 Corinteni 5 „Daca este cineva in Cristos, este o faptura noua. Cele vechi s-au dus: iata ca toate lucrurile s-au facut noi.”

Este dificil pentru caci ca pastor, imi doresc ca oamenii din biserica mea sa-si creasca copiii in religia adevarata. Vreau sa-i vad umbland in ea. Vreau sa-i vad pe copiii mei cum cresc si umbla in religia adevarata. Dar trebuie sa intelegem diferenta intre adevar si neadevar si sa nu acceptam niste lucruri doar pentru ca asa am fost crescuti.

Intrebare: Dar cum putem sti daca o religie e adevarata sau falsa?

Cu ajutorul Evangheliei. In functie de fidelitatea acelei religii fata de Scripturi. Reformatorii au spus foarte clar ca o biserica adevarata este un loc in care Evanghelia este predicata corect, in care sacramentele sau simbolurile sunt administrate corect si in care exista disciplina biblica adevarata. Iar la baza acestora trebuie sa fie, desigur, este adevarul Cuvantului lui Dumnezeu in care gasim toate aceste lucruri. Asadar, atunci cand Cuvantul lui Dumnezeu este primit si crezut ca autoritate, cand Evanghelia este proclamata corect, asa cum o gasim in Scripturi, cand practicam lucruri precum Cina Domnului si botezul si cand exercitam la modul real disciplina datorita acestei asteptari ca oamenii sunt fapturi noi in Cristos, atunci si numai atunci putem spune ca ne gasim intr-o biserica adevarata sau ca practicam religia adevarata.

Daca oricare din aceste lucruri este subminat, de exemplu Scripturile, cand dintr-o data autoritatea nu o mai are Biblia, ci traditia oamenilor are autoritate sau o anumita persoana are autoritate, atunci am parasit religia adevarata. Sau Evanghelia… cand Evanghelia este denaturata, am parasit religia adevarata. Cand cream o Evanghelie in centrul careia se afla omul sau o Evanghelie care nu este sincera in privinta pacatului, atunci avem o Evanghelie care nu este sincera sau corecta nici cu privire la justificare, la sfintire, la infiere si alte lucruri ca acestea. Apoi, cand botezul si Cina Domnului nu sunt percepute corect sau cand adaugam la ele diferite lucruri, de exemplu cum face Biserica de la Roma cand adauga sacramente, fiind o religie sacramentala in care harul este impartit prin lucruri precum casatoria si asa mai departe… Sau cand nu exista disciplina, cand nu este o asteptare cu privire la neprihanire, si cand nu avem asteptari cu privire la sfintenie, atunci ne gasim intr-o religie falsa si ar trebui sa fugim de asa ceva.

Intrebare: Sunt multi oameni care cred intr-o mantuire prin har, dar cred in acelasi timp ca mai trebie sa adauge la aceasta cate ceva, poate niste fapte bune.

Da, este o perspectiva destul de infricosatoare. Cred ca oamenii care cred asta…Cred ca oamenii care traiesc cu aceasta convingere nu au o parere corecta despre ei insisi. Mai intai de toate, eu nu sunt capabil sa fac binele. Categoric nu sunt. Orice lucru bun facut in mine, prin mine, sau de catre mine este prin harul lui Dumnezeu prin Cristos Insusi si numai prin El. Filipeni 2:13 ne spune ca Dumnezeu e cel care lucreaza in noi si ne da atat vointa, cat si infaptuirea… Pentru mine a trai este Cristos si a muri e un castig. Eu sunt rastignit impreuna cu Cristos si traiesc, dar nu mai traiesc eu, ci Cristos care traieste in mine. Asa ca nu ma incred in mine insumi si nici in faptele mele pentru mantuire, ci ma astept ca in virtutea faptului ca mantuirea mea este autentica, sa fiu schimbat, sa fiu sfintit si sa vad tot mai mult rod in viata mea. Aceste lucruri nu sunt indicatorul dupa care pot masura daca obtin sau nu mantuirea, ci sunt mijlocul princ are imi dau seama ca mantuirea imi apartine deja si lucreaza in mine. Deci este vorba de o diferenta in perspectiva. Nu ma incred in eforturile mele ca acestea sa ma duca intr-o pozitie buna inaintea lui Dumnezeu, ci ma incred in lucrarea lui Dumnezeu in viata mea care ma schimba din interior spre exterior.

Infanticide: Is our culture returning to paganism?

Infanticide has a long history, and several cultures have routinely practiced it for several reasons including birth control, to destroy handicapped individuals seen as unfit and to kill female children because of cultural preference for males. While Infanticide is currently considered a much bigger taboo than abortion in America, it still takes place today in the U.S. and in other countries around the world. (Read more about it here) Also, read the Grand Jury Sumary on Dr. Gosnell, who performed infanticide as part of his botched abortions – http://www.rtl.org/action_center/pdfs/GrandJurySummary.pdf). The grand jury report in the Kermit Gosnell case is a detailed look into the grotesque conditions to which the Philadelphia abortionist subjected women and infants. The doctor is facing murder charges in the death of one patient due to a botched abortion, and seven babies. One employee testified that hundreds of born-alive children were killed in the clinic.

Michael F. Bird on where our culture is headed

Just like in a game of chess, which requires one to think ahead of the moves that follow, so, Michael F. Bird- a New Testament and historical Jesus scholar, and well known author (see amazon list here- http://www.amazon.com/Michael-F.-Bird and his contribution to Baker’s academic New Testament Backgrounds Set here – http://www.logos.com) writes an article  (which you can read here in full- http://www.patheos.com/blogs/euangelion/2013/04/infanticide-the-coming-battle, in which Bird comes to a startling conclusion- if he is correct, our society is returning to paganism.

His points: First, Same Sex Marriage is inevitable. Next, he believes euthanasia will be coming, and with it, a devaluation of the elderly. And after that, Bird believes infanticide will be on the horizon. Here he points to Planned Parenthood’s defense of post-birth abortion- infanticide:

Added to that, Planned Parenthood has recently defended infanticide: If you pay money, you are owed a dead baby! I think infanticide is a logically consistent corollary of abortion. If you are going to terminate a child in utero, then let’s be honest, going six inches down the birth canal can hardly change the infant’s legal rights or ontological status. So infanticide is just a logical outworking of abortion. But a cruel, bastardly, and barbaric logic is still cruel, bastardly, and barbaric regardless of how internally consistent it is.

Bird lays out a good case as to how infanticide will be portrayed in order to make it acceptable by its campaigners:

  1. They will call it post abortion, not infanticide, but as he states „killing an infant is an execution„.
  2. They will make examples out of infants born with terminal illnesses that need to end their suffering
  3. Planned Parenthood will parade teary eyed parents wishing they would have aborted the child in order to avoid the suffering
  4. Feminists will say that women are not truly liberated unless given the right to terminate their own infants
  5. You must be a religious nut if you are against infanticide

Now, if maybe we would have read this article by Bird before the infanticide performed at the Gosnell abortion clinic (which the media is purposefully ignoring) we might have thought it a bit of a stretch, or something in a possible, yet very distant future. But, Bird is spot on. And he calls for all of us to get our stuff together.

Bird offers his solution:

If infanticide ever becomes permissible it will mean the death of western culture as we know it. No longer a light in the darkness, but a greater part of the darkness. It will mean that we are ruled by Barbarians with Law degrees from Harvard. I believe that the one group with the resources and testicular fortitude to stand up for the defenceless, to be a voice for the voiceless, is the church of Jesus Christ. It’s what we do. Whether that was stopping gladiatorial contests in the arena or setting up hospices for the dying. In a world, like the Roman empire, that is often cold, brutal, and dark, where the weak are exploited or expendable, Christians are to be lights against darkness and a force against evil.

Aveti Duhul Sfant? Foarte bine!

  1. Iubiti-va fratii

  3. Recunoaste-ti binele pe care Dumnezeu l-a facut
  4. Si nu conteaza prin cine lucreaza Dumnezeu

Cand ii spune Saul lui David, „Tu esti bun, eu sunt rau,” cumva cu capul in jos, ce inseamna asta? Inseamna ca vii la biserica, cunosti adevarul si n-ai putere sa-l traiesti. Pentru ca acesta este principalul simptom al departarii Duhului Sfant din viata ta. Vii la biserica, recunosti ca esti rau, recunosti ca esti pacatos, mai strivesti 2-3 lacrimi, juri inaintea Domnului ca nu mai faci ceea ce faci, si dupa aceea, te intorci la nenorocita ta de viata . Te intorci luni si stai in aceeasi mocirla, Marti mergi cu aceiasi prieteni, Miercuri deschizi acelasi computer, Joi stai iar si pierzi vremea si n-ai putere sa te schimbi. Fratii mei, surorile mele, va spun in numele lui Isus Hristos: Sa recunosti ca esti pacatos, sa recunosti ca esti rau nu e totul in viata. Sa recunosti si sa te schimbi, asta e totul in viata.

Iubitii Domnului, astazi am fost inre-un punct inalt al Atenei, sa vad ceea ce oamenii au facut. Si m-am uitat la cer si am bagat de seama un lucru- ca cerul nu-i pe petece. Nici Ortodox, nici Baptist. Asa de mult mi-as dori sa coboare cerul lui Dumnezeu in inima noastra. Dumnezeu nu ne imparte cum se impart oamenii. Dumnezeu stie daca suntem sau daca nu suntem oamenii lui Dumnezeu. De ce va spun lucrul asta, iubitii Domnului? Pentru ca exista un risc, de-a lungul vietii de credinta- riscul sa stii despre Dumnezeu, riscul sa cunosti despre Dumnezeu, riscul de a veni la biserica si totusi, intr-un mod paradoxal, sa nu te faci mai bun. Spunea ap. Pavel cu durere: V-ati strans la biserica, v-ati adunat si nu v-ati facut mai buni, ci v-ati facut mai rai. Nu vi se pare ca e o insulta, pe care Satana o arunca asupra bisericii si o palma, pe care ne-o da intunericul. Sa venim la biserica si sa plecam mai rai? Nu cunosc nici o alta ocara, pe care sa o arunce cel rau, mai mare decat aceea de a sta 3 ore pe un scaun la biserica si cand plec sa fiu mai rau. Nu-mi doresc nimic mai mult in aceasta seara, decat sa plecam de aici mai buni, mai curat sufleteste, mai sfinti, cu privirea atintita mai mult spre acela care merita, cu gandurile noastre patrunse de Dumnezeu si cu o orientare noua in viata.

Cand ne-am nascut, Dumnezeu s-a uitat la noi si a zis: Tu esti un vas. Biblia spune ca, inviata oameni nu pot fi decat de doua feluri: vase de cinste si vase de ocara. Noi, intotdeauana in viata credem ca staifu e tot- adica exteriorul vasului. Si tot incercam sa lucram la exteriorul vasului, sa fie cat mai bine impodobit, cat mai bine pictat. Daca am putea, sa-i punem cele mai frumaose etichete, snururi. Dumnezeu se uita si spune: Pe Mine nu ma impresioneaza ce face omul la exterior. Dumnezeu spune: Ceea ce defineste pe un om si ceea ce-l face sa fie vas de cinste sau vas de ocara nu este ceea ce la exterior are, ci ceea ce-l umple. Oricine ar veni sa va spuna ca voi sunteti liberi, noi nu suntem liberi.

Noi suntem intotdeauna umpluti de cineva, sau suntem umpluti de ceva. Avem doar libertatea sa alegem cine sau ce ne umple, ca dupa ce ne-a umplut, noi nu mai suntem liberi niciodata. Niciodata, Dumnezeu din cer n-are sa iti zica: Te fortez sa te umpli de cuvantul Meu. Dumnezeu este singurul care spune: „Dace vrea cineva sa vina dupa Mine, sa-si ia cruce si sa ma urmeze.” Domnul Dumnezeu vine la usa omului si bate si spune: „Iata, eu stau la usa si bat. Daca aude (cineva) glasul Meu si daca deschide (cineva), voi intra la el, voi cina cu el si el cu Mine.” Satana niciodata n-are sa faca lucrul asta. Satana este un rapitor si el totdeauna, cand tu nu esti umplut cu Dumnezeu, va veni sa umple spatiul gol cu el. Aceasta este viclenia celui rau. Cel rau, niciodata nu va spune: Eu vreau sa te umplu. Intotdeauna, orice spatiu gol ramane in noi, totdeauna va fi umplut de cel rau.

Cati dintre dumneavoastra a-ti vazut urmatorul lucru? A venit Satana la voi si a zis, „Eu sunt Satana. Vreau sa te trimit in iad. Pacatuieste si te voi trimite in iad.” A-ti avut vreo intalnire de asa gen vreodata? Nu. Dar, intotdeauna cand ajungem intr-un moment rau al vietii noastre, cel rau stie sa impacheteze lucrurile intr-un fel incat nu ne dam seama ca avem de a face cu cel rau. Intotdeauna, oamenii sunt framantati si spun asa: Pastore, cum pot eu fi sigur ca am Duhul Sfant? Si atunci, luam semnele din Biblie si spunem: Iata, cand ai Duhul Sfant, primul semn e ca vorbesti in limbi, apoi ai o bucurie cereasca, te lipesti de Dumnezeu, si doresti sa lucrezi pentru Dumnezeu… Dar eu, am venit in seara asta sa va pun o intrebare: Cum sa fii sigur ca nu mai ai Duhul Sfant. Nimeni nu-si pune intrebarea asta de bun simt: Cum poti sa fi sigur, pe Biblie, ca nu mai ai Duhul Sfant? Inca odata va spun ca nu doresc sa tocesc acest plus al scaunelor de la biserica. Doresc sa am un folos de la viata spirituala. Doresc sa fiu cu Domnul Dumnezeu in viata spirituala si Dumnezeu sa ne ajute. Poza mai jos via zionteacher.org

Sa va dau cateva exemple Biblice:

  • 2 Timotei 2:20 Într’o casă mare nu sînt numai vase de aur şi de argint, ci şi de lemn şi de pămînt. Unele sînt pentru o întrebuinţare de cinste, iar altele pentru o întrebuinţare de ocară. Deci, ceea ce te defineste este ceea ce te umple. Un vas de argint sau de ocara nu esti din cauza ca esti din portelan, cermaica sau lut simplu. Ci, ceea ce te umple, aceea te face de lut sau de ocara.
  • Matei 12:43  Duhul necurat, cînd a ieşit dintr’un om, umblă prin locuri fără apă, căutînd odihnă, şi n’o găseşte. 44 Atunci zice: ,,Mă voi întoarce în casa mea, de unde am ieşit. Şi, cînd vine în ea, o găseşte goală, măturată şi împodobită. 45 Atunci se duce şi ia cu el alte şapte duhuri mai rele decît el: intră în casă, locuiesc acolo, şi starea din urmă a omului acestuia ajunge mai rea decît cea dintîi. In momentul cand Domnul Isus curateste inlauntrul nostru, duhul necurat, cand a iesit dintr-un om, umbla prin locuri fara apa, cautand odihna si n-o gaseste. Se intoarce inapoi cu alte 7 duhuri. De ce? Pentru ca nu e totul in viata sa fi curatit. Dumnezeu ne curateste si apoi vine Dumnezeu si spune: Dupa ce te-am curatit, tu trebuie sa vii si sa umpli viata aceasta a spiritului tau. Dumnezeu a scos tot gunoiul din noi, Dumnezeu a maturat tot aluatul din noi, Dumnezeu a facut curatenie in inima noastra. A scos afara tot ce era gresit si noi suntem mantuiti, fericiti si naivi. Si stam si asistam la propriul spectacol al mantuirii noastre, nestiind ca viata de credinta inseamna sa zidesti impreuna cu Dumnezeu. Sa aduni in fiecare zi, sa depozitezi in fiecare zi, sa strangi cuvantul in inima ta, pentru ca altminteri, de nu te umple Dumnezeu cu Cuvantul Lui, tu ramai un vas gol pe care-l va umple primul venit. Oameni buni, iubitii Domnului, in seara aceasta imi doresc din toata inima sa ne trezim si Dumnezeu sa ne faca atenti, sa ne trezim asupra faptului ca in viata, poti fi curatit de Dumnezeu, dar, daca nu esti un om care sa aduni impreuna cu Dumnezeu, vei risipi la un moment dat.

Cum stam noi cu Domnul Dumnezeu? 

Eu nu sunt impresionat de omul care se roaga si tremura peretii. Eu nu-s impresionat de omul care iese in fata cu o rugaciune. Ba, as putea spune ca sunt impresionat- la modul negativ. Cand toti se roaga la intensitate, tu te rogi peste. Poate ca esti un om care ai necazuri, poate esti un om care ai probleme, nu stiu- tu sti. Eu nu sunt impresionat de oamenii care canta neaparat in biserica si nu sunt poate impresionat de oamenii care varsa o lacrima in biserica. Eu sunt impresionat de oamenii care in viata, atunci cand oamenii cedeaza, ei raman in picioare. Cand toti ceilalti mint, ei sunt curati sufleteste si nu fac compromis. Pe mine ma impresioneaza omul, nu care neaparat vorbeste la biserica, ci care vorbeste limba lui Dumnezeu in toate zilele vietii lui. Sunt foarte impresionat de omul care are caracter, de omul care dovedeste ca nu are goluri launtrice. Eu sunt impresionat de omul care are acea legatura cu Dumnezeu, care se dovedeste in fiecare zi a vietii lui. Vine la biserica- si iertati-ma dragii mei, ascultati-ma ce va spun: Putem juca un rol, putem juca un rol pe care l-am invatat, putem spune: Sunt Penticostal si sa nu mai fi. Putem sa spunem: Sunt un credincios- si sa nu mai fi. Pentru ca ceea ce e important nu e inauntru, ce suntem in biserica, ci, in afara. Aici venim sa ne hranim, aici venim sa ne marturisim ca Isus Hristos este Domnul. Aici venim sa sarbatorim. Dar credinta noastra este acolo. Nu aici ma intereseaza sa fiu credincios, ci in afara. Biblia spune un verset care trebuie sa ne puna in garda, simplu, clar si la lumina zilei. Dumnezeu si Duhul Domnului s-a departat de Saul. Nu-i poveste, nu-i metafora, nu-i literatura, nu-i parere omeneasca. Clar si simplu: Duhul Domnului s-a uitat la Saul si a inceput sa faca pasi, sa dea inapoi. L-a lasat pe Saul cu ale lui si El a plecat de la el. Si acuma, as vrea sa facem aceasta verificare a fiintelor noastre, incepand cu mine. Eu sunt primul care ma cantaresc. 1 Samuel 16:22  Dupa ce David ajunge la Saul, Biblia spune ca facea o slujba. Si in 1 Samuel 16:23 spune: Şi cînd duhul trimes de Dumnezeu venea peste Saul, David lua arfa şi cînta cu mîna lui; Saul răsufla atunci mai uşor, se simţea uşurat, şi duhul cel rău pleca dela el. Cum spuneam, daca nu e Duhul Sfant vine un alt duh. Care este punctul? Saul a trimis dupa David si a zis: Sa vina la casa mea. Venea peste Saul o stare foarte rea, o stare de manie, o stare din aceasta in care nu mai avea control asupra lui, pentru ca, de cate ori un duh rau vine peste un om, primul lucru pe care omul il pierde este controlul lui si echilibrul lui launtric. Spune Biblia ca David lua atunci harfa si canta. Saul se uita la David, care canta  si acuma, uita-ti ce se intampla dupa acest eveniment.

1 Samuel 17:55 Cînd a văzut Saul pe David mergînd împotriva Filisteanului, a zis lui Abner, căpetenia oştirii: ,,Al cui fiu este tînărul acesta, Abner?„ Abner a răspuns: ,,Pe sufletul tău, împărate, că nu ştiu.` Spune Biblia ca are loc acest razboi cu filistenii, in care apare Goliat, merge imparatul, vine si David, care intre timp cat a fost razboiul s-a intors la oile tatalui lui si cand il vede imparatul, imparatul care se duse cu David atata vreme, intreaba: Al cui fiu este acesta?

Disparitia Duhului Sfant din viata noastra

Primul semn – nu mai stim cine ne sunt prietenii

Primul semn al disparitiei Duhului Sfant in viata noastra si a departarii Duhului Sfant si a lui Dumnezeu insusi e cand nu mai stim cine ne sunt prietenii. M-ati auzit tinerilor? De atatea ori mi-ati strapuns inima. In ziua in care a-ti spus: Frate, eu nu mai ma duc la biserica pentru ca aia din biserica sunt cum sunt si eu am prietenii mei. In ziua in care noi am ales tovarasia lumii, in locul tovarasiei fratilor nostri, in ziua in care am ales sa dam mana cu cei din afara si nu ne mai este draga biserica si partasia, nu mai vorbiti de Duhul Sfant, pentru ca acela este duhul lumii. Duhul lui Dumnezeu ne strange, Duhul lui Dumnezeu ne leaga, Duhul lui Dumnezeu ne pune impreuna. Duhul lui Dumnezeu iti face placere de mine si mie de tine. Duhul lui Dumnezeu ne duce laolalta pentru ca este duhul unitatii. In ziua in care ajungi sa faci comparatii, in ziua in care ajungi sa stai in afara bisericii, cine isi gaseste Duminica dimineata placerea sa bea cafele cu prietenii lui, in timp ce oamenii stau aici pe genunchi, omul acela nu marturiseste decat un singur lucru, ca Duhul Domnului  a facut pasi din viata lui.

Atatia oameni critica astazi biserica. Atat de multi oameni i-am vazut, vorbind cu usurinta si n-am inteles un lucru- ca in momentul cand vorbim cu usurinta despre aproapele nostru, despre cel care este spalat in sangele Domnului nostru Isus Hristos, despre cel ce este madular in biserica Lui, noi nu marturisim decat un singur lucru: Ca de noi s-a departat Duhul lui Dumnezeu. Am toata credinta, ca se afla astazi, in sala aici, oameni sfinti, curati, si care au venit pentru Dumnezeu. Nu mi-a trecut si nu-mi trece niciodata prin minte ca voi veniti la biserica pentru un alt scop, decat sa va intalniti cu Dumnezeul vostru. Rusine omului care judeca in felul acesta! Si el trebuie sa inteleaga, ca orice om care vine si are o privire banuitoare, orice om care sta pe scaun si judeca pe aproapele lui, nu marturiseste decat un singur lucru: Ca sa golit incetul cu incetul de Duhul lui Dumnezeu. Adu-ti aminte cand ai venit in Biserica. Adu-ti aminte cand ai cunoscut biserica celor intai nascuti in Domnul. Ce sentiment aveai? Oh Doamne, ce zambet, ce cantec! Ce lauda la adresa ta. Ce rugaciune! Ce oameni! Si ce s-a intamplat intre timp? Inima noastra s-a racit. Stiti de ce? Pentru ca Duhul lumii a venit si ne-a luat incetul cu incetul si ne-a furat. Ne gasim placeri vinovate, in locuri in care n-ar trebui sa ne gasim placerea. Avem discutii si avem partasii cu oameni care n-ar trebui sa avem. (25:00) (Photo via sfgate.com)

Intotdeauna exista o separare. Omul lui Dumnezeu isi gaseste placerea in oamenii lui Dumnezeu si in lucrurile lui Dumnezeu. Nu mai pot sta, nu mai pot barfi, nu mai pot gasi placere in ce spui tu, in nimicurile lumii acesteia. Nu mai am timp de asa ceva. Sunt contra cronometru. Omul lui Dumnezeu, care este umplut de Duhul lui Dumnezeu va gasi placere sa stea in casa copiilor lui Dumnezeu, va gasi placere sa aiba partasie cu ei. Va gasi placere sa stea langa cineva. Va privi cu ochi curati. Spune Biblia, pentru cel curat toate sunt curate si pentru cel murdar toate sunt murdare. Oameni buni, orice credincios, care Il are pe Duhul Sfant, va avea dragoste si placere fata de fratele si sora lui. Orice om, care este umplut de Duhul lui Dumnezeu va deschide bratele, nu va intoarce spatele. Orice om, care va avea Duhul lui Dumnezeu va avea un cuvant de mangaiere, nu va fi urzica! Noi nu suntem aricii lui Isus, suntem porumbeii Lui. Ajuta-ne Doamne!

Iubitii Domnului, in seara aceasta vreau sa-ti pui urmatoarea intrebare. Eu nu sunt un om naiv, stiu ca suntem nedesavarsiti. Stiu ca suntem uneori greoi la intelegere. Stiu uneori ca ne lipseste aceasta frumusete a trairii cu Dumnezeu. Stiu ca uneori am suparat pe cei din casa lui Dumnezeu. Stiu ca uneori am fost si eu suparat de catre ei. Dar, nici odata n-am sa spun ca e mai buna lumea decat cei pe care Hristos i-a rascumparat. Pentru ca asta imi spune Duhul Domnului, ca o oaie, chiar si beteaga, tot e mai buna ca si un caine mort. Te intreb in aceasta seara, tu cel ce vorbesti in alte limbi, tu cel ce te rogi cu putere, tu cel ce canti cu insufletire, ai ochi, sa spui in aceasta seara: Multumesc Doamne pentru  fratii si surorile din biserica. Multumesc pentru biserica Ta, pentru credinciosi, multumesc pentru cei care au venit la 6:30 sa descuie biserica. Multumesc pentru cei ce au venit azi dupa amiaza sa repete, s-au ridicat in picioare si au cantat. Multumesc Domnului pentru corul acesta ce mi-a imbogatit sufletul. Multumesc Doamne pentru scaunul acesta care nu m-a costat nimic pe mine. Multumesc pentru lumina asta de astazi. O Duhule Sfant, vino Doamne, pune stapanire pe mintea mea si fa-ma generos. Nu sarac, nu pungit, nu uscat, ca ala nu-i Duhul lui Hristos. Duhul lui Hristos te face sa fi ca un boier. Ai de unde sa dai, ca-i tata bogat. Pot sa-ti dau un cuvant bun, ca imi da Dumnezeu o multime. Pot sa fiu generos cu sufletul meu, ca Dumnezeu  l-a umplut. Marire lui Dumnezeu!

  • Vreau sa mai spun un lucru si Dumnezeu sa ne ajute sa-l intelegem in aceasta seara. O intrebare simpla: Aveti necazuri cu oamenii? Poate ca unii da, poate ca unii nu. Hai sa ne punem in aceasta seara, un pic, un termometru. Stiti ca Biblia spune ca in ultima parte a vietii lui, Solomon a fost tarat de iubiri straine? Adica, ce a facut Solomon? A inceput sa iubeasca ceea ce nu a putut sa iubeasca. S-a uitat si a zis, „Mai, si asta-i frumoasa. O iau. Si asta-i frumoasa. Si pe asta o iau.” Dar, Dumnezeu a zis, „Tu nu poti sa te amesteci, tu trebuie sa ramai ceea ce ai zis ca esti.” Si atunci Dumnezeu zice ca el a fost tarat de iubiri straine. Stiti care a fost reactia lui Dumnezeu?
  • 1 Imparati 11:4, 14 Cînd a îmbătrînit Solomon, nevestele i-au plecat inima spre alţi dumnezei; şi inima nu i -a fost în totul a Domnului, Dumnezeului său, cum fusese inima tatălui său David – 14- Domnul a ridicat un vrăjmaş lui Solomon: pe Hadad, Edomitul, din neamul împărătesc al Edomului. Dumnezeu i-a zis, „Ti-e draga lumea? Foarte bine, ti-i dau cu toata inima, spala-te pe cap cu ei.” Si i-a ridicat un dusman, zice Biblia. O sa spuneti ca Dumnezeu s-a oprit aici.

Nu ne mai numaram binecuvantarile

Eu in seara aceasta zic asa: Iarta-ma Doamne, ma pocaiesc si vreau Doamne sa-i iubesc pe cei ce sunt ai Tai si sa iubesc biserica. SI iarta-ma Doamne  si departeaza de la mine vrajmasi. Pune-ti intrebarile urmatoare: De ce am eu atatia dusmani? Dar, de ce s-au ridicat atatia impotriva mea? Din cauza neprihanirii sau fiindca ti-s dragi?

1 Samuel 18:7-8  Femeile cari cîntau îşi răspundeau unele altora, şi ziceau: ,,Saul a bătut miile lui, -iar David zecile lui de mii.„Saul s’a mîniat foarte tare, şi nu i -a plăcut vorba aceasta. El a zis: ,,Lui David îi dau zece mii şi mie-mi dau mii! Nu -i mai lipseşte decît împărăţia.` Cine erau femeile acelea care cantau? Mamele a caror fii nu mai murise pe campul de lupta. Si sotiile a caror soti nu mai murisera pe campul de lupta. Nu-i un lucru extraordinar? Un singur om s-a ridicat si a zis, „Ma duc eu la lupta si toata ostirea lui Israel s-a intors acasa neatinsa, nevatamata. Cine canta? Canta mama, canta fiica, canta sotia. Aleluia! Zi de sarbatoare in Israel. Ne intoarcem acasa din razboi fara raniti. Primul razboi in care nu moare nimeni, afara de dusmani. O biruinta! Stiti ce trebuia sa spuna Saul in ziua aceea? Un Aleluia! Slavit sa fie Dumnezeu. La care, Saul se uita si spune: Cum adica? S-a maniat. Cum adica, a dat Dumnezeu izbavire prin altul? E altul mai important decat mine?

Credem ca Dumnezeu lucreaza doar prin noi, sau doar prin unii

Nu conteaza prin cine lucreaza Dumnezeu. Daca lucreaza printr-un copilas si la poezia lui, Dumnezeu aduce cercetare in biserica, sa spunem, „Laudat sa fie Dumnezeu!” Noi nu am venit la biserica sa ni se puna medalii in piept, noi n-am venit la biserica sa fim decorati. Am venit la biserica sa putem impodobi si sa putem sarbatori pe Dumnezeu si sa putem spune, „Doamne, lucreaza tu.” Nu mai recunosti binele. Fratii mei, avem o memorie blestemata. De ce spun asta? In fiecare zi Dumnezeu ne-a pus painea pe masa. In fiecare zi Dumnezeu ne-a ajutat intr-un fel sau altul. Si ni se intampla si noua un necaz. Cand ni se intampla un necaz, nu ne mai amintim de loc de binele care l-a facut Dumnezeu, dar numai necazul ala ni-l amintim si nu mai iesim din el.

Biserica asta te-a binecuvantat. Te-ai imbracat in alb, te-ai botezat, ai primit hrana. Si te-a jignit unul. Nu mai sti nimic decat jignirea aia. De ce? Memorie blestemata. Dar, adu-ti aminte de toate binefacerile Domnului. Vreau sa va spun un lucru frumos in aceasta seara. Stiti ce I-a spus Domnul Isus Hristos lui Petru dupa ce a pescuit? Zice, „Petru, numara pestii.” Dar, asa o sarcina ciudata. Am stat si m-am intrebat: Cum de pe Petru l-a pus sa numere pestii? Au fost 153 de pesti mari. De ce spune Biblia ca au fost 153 de pesti mari? Pentru ca in Marea Tiberiada era numai plevusca. A aruncat navodul, la porunca Domnului si nu era decat plevusca. In Marea Tiberiada atata era pestele. Petru i-a numarat toti cei 153 de pesti mari. Cand voi va treziti dimineata, va aduceti aminte de tot ceea ce trebuie sa faceti. Probleme pana peste cap. Cand te uiti, deja te intuneci. Nut-i gasesti papucii, baia e ocupata. Dupa care primesti un mesaj si gata esti, esti copt. Satana ti-a stricat toata ziua. Ce sa mai stai tu in genunchi: Doamne iti multumesc…. dulceata diminetii- s-a dus toata.

Dar, ce trebuie sa facem noi? Oameni buni, va treziti dimineata si spuneti asa: Una bucata trup sanatos. Amin! Slava Domnului. Am dormit azi noapte 2 ore, 3 ore, 5 ore… Slava Domnului. Ma cobor dintr-un pat care este al meu, nu-i cu chirie. Slava Domnului! Pot sa beau o cafea. Marit sa fie Dumnezeu! Am un acoperis deasupra capului… Numarati-va binecuvantarile.  Am copii sanatosi. Stiti cum se intampla? Vine Satana de dimineata si vrea sa puna mana pe tine. Numarati ca Petru pestii si cand ajungi la 153, Satana e in afara orasului (Atenei). Dar, nemultumirea, cartirea- Asta-i cantare, asta-i predica, asta-i Biserica? Vine Satana si zice: „Noi doi, parteneri.” E simplu, oameni buni. Duhul Sfant al lui Dumnezeu te invata sa numeri binecuvantarile. Duhul Sfant al lui Dumnezeu te invata sa fi bucuros. Laudat sa fie Dumnezeu pentru tot.

Cand in biserica se intampla ceva care nu merge bine, dar, nu ma tem si nici nu ma supar. Stiti de ce? Pana la urma este biserica lui Dumnezeu. El o tine in picioare. Nu ma supar pentru ca asta m-a invatat Duhul lui Dumnezeu, sa fiu multumitor. Sunt multumitor pentru fiecare, sunt multumitor si pentru ala care nu-i multumitor, pentru ca ma invata sa fiu multumitor cu mine. (43:30)

  1. 1 Samuel 24:17 Şi Saul a zis lui David: ,,Tu eşti mai bun decît mine; căci tu mi-ai făcut… bine, iar eu ţi-am făcut rău. 
  2. 1 Samuel 26:21 Saul a zis: ,,Am păcătuit; întoarce-te, fiul meu David, căci nu-ţi voi mai face rău, fiindcă în ziua aceasta viaţa mea a fost scumpă înaintea ta. Am lucrat ca un nebun, şi am făcut o mare greşală.„ 

Acestea sunt doua pasaje, la o distanta cronologica de 3 luni. Saul, imparatul, il fugarea pe David si vroia sa-i ia viata. La care spunea Biblia, ca el a ajuns in pestera Ein Gedi, unde s-a culcat la intrare. Iar, David era in spate si in momentul cand Saul a adormit. David putea sa-l omoare, ca avea tot dreptul. Dar, a taiat coltul hainei si a plecat si a strigat la Saul, spunandu-i ce putea sa-i fi facut. Apoi, Saul ii raspunde in vers. 17. Zice, „Am inteles ca tu esti bun si eu sunt rau.” La trei luni de zile il gasim din nou pe Saul, pe cai, fugarindu-l pe acelasi David. De data asta, David i-a luat ulciorul si sulita, cand s-a coborat un somn peste el. La care iarasi zice Saul: Vad acuma lamurit ca eu sunt rau si tu esti bun si ca Dumnezeu imi arata lucrul asta.” Dupa asta, Saul iarasi a inceput sa-l fugareasca, pana ce David a fugit la Filisteni. Oamnei buni. Venim la biserica si Duhul Sfant al lui Dumnezeu lucreaza. Stiti cum lucreaza? Imi dovedeste pacatosenia si imi dovedeste rautatea. Si-mi dovedeste micimea, si importanta. Stiti care este cea mai importanta slujba a lui Dumnezeu in seara asta? Sa-ti dovedeasca cine esti tu si sa-ti arate cine este El. Sa ne aduca Duhul lui Dumnezeu la adevar pentru ca Duhul Sfant este Duhul Adevarului. Si Duhul lui Dumnezeu vine si iti spune adevarul. Ce esti tu, cum esti tu, cum sunt gandurile tale si ale mele.

Cand ii spune Saul lui David, „Tu esti bun, eu sunt rau,” cumva cu capul in jos, ce inseamna asta? Inseamna ca vii la biserica, cunosti adevarul si n-ai putere sa-l traiesti. Pentru ca acesta este principalul simtom al departarii Duhului Sfant din viata ta. Vii la biserica, recunosti ca esti rau, recunosti ca esti pacatos, mai strivesti 2-3 lacrimi, juri inaintea Domnului ca nu mai faci ceea ce faci, si dupa aceea, te intorci la nenorocita ta de viata . Te intorci luni si stai in aceeasi mocirla, Marti mergi cu aceiasi prieteni, Miercuri deschizi acelasi computer, Joi stai iar si pierzi vremea si n-ai putere sa te schimbi. Fratii mei, surorile mele, va spun in numele lui Isus Hristos: Sa recunosti ca esti pacatos, sa recunosti ca esti rau nu e totul in viata. Sa recunosti si sa te schimbi, asta e totul in viata.

Christians are being driven out of Iraq

iraqChrist followers in Iraq date back to the first century A.D., making it one of the oldest Christian communities in the world. But today, Christianity in Iraq is under serious threat. Similarly, the wetland marshes, once teeming with flora and fauna, were drained to desert over a decade ago.

What’s more, it seems this attitude is part of a growing trend. Open Doors minister-at-large Paul Estabrooks explains, „The Christians are being told, ‘We want a Muslim-only nation. We do not want any Christians here.’ This is similar to what is going on today in northern Sudan.”

As a result, Christians in Iraq continue to be targets of violent attacks. „When the Iraq war began, Muslim extremists in Baghdad targeted one whole community called Dara, where the Christians lived in Baghdad.” Estabrooks notes, „Today, just about every one of those Christian families has been driven out of the subdivision in which they lived.”

While the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 2003 may have been a victory for coalition forces, ongoing changes in leadership have been a disaster for Iraqi Christians. Estabrooks says, „As each attack against Christians occurs in recent weeks and days, there are more and more concerns that Christians will continue the exodus.”

Reports from Open Doors field workers indicate anti-Christian sentiment is only growing. „From a city like Mosul, armed men shot a Christian right in front of his home. Another one had a bomb thrown in his yard.” In 2003, there were more than one million Christians in Iraq. A decade later, only a third of this number remain.

The saddest part of this story, says Estabrooks, is the loss of history. Christians have been part of the fabric of Iraqi society since the beginning. During the 7th century, Islam took over and the Christians were hard-pressed, but they survived. That’s what makes this modern day „religicide” a travesty. „Even though they were second class citizens at the time, they were able to survive through the challenges and the pressure of that era (7th century Islam). Now, even these denominations are saying, ‘If more and more Christians keep leaving or get killed, then there will be no Church left in this country.'”

However, there are some church leaders who are not content to sit quietly while the violence decimates their homes. Louis Raphael Sako, the newly-elected Chaldean Catholic patriarch of Iraq and Syria, urges Christians to stay. „We must stay. This is our history. This is our cultural heritage. When we leave, everything will leave with us.” As he reads the field reports, Estabrooks echoes that sentiment. „There’s a sense in which the Salt and Light Christians [bring] must remain there. This is the appeal Christians are making to us for our prayers on their behalf.”

Does intercessory prayer make a difference? It must, says Estabrooks. „It is the only recourse we really have other than giving awareness to the international community of this kind of ‘religious cleansing’ that seems to be going on.”

According to the Open Doors 2013 World Watch List materials, there are only an estimated 330,000 to 350,000 Christians left in Iraq. There were more than 1.2 million Christians in the early 1990s. Many of the believers have fled to Jordan and Lebanon, or to the northern Kurdish region of Iraq. Iraq is ranked No. 4 on the list of the worst persecutors around the globe.

Despite the doom and gloom of this story, it does include a bright note. Dreams and visions of Christ are commonly reported throughout the Middle East and North Africa as the rise of Islam continues. Even as the reports of „religicide” pour in, there are people who are accepting Christ as Savior. Mentoring these new Christians falls on the shoulders of the few church leaders who are left.

The Open Doors ministry in Iraq is coming alongside this remnant and providing trauma counseling, biblical training for church leaders and Muslim-Background Believers, distribution of Bibles and Christian literature, community development projects, and working with Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs) in Kurdistan.

Remember the comparison we made at the beginning of this story? Recently, an Iraqi civil engineer came back to the wetlands and organized a careful breech of the dams that diverted the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates. Within months, the desert landscape was teeming with life, seeds sprouting from a dry land nearly abandoned to war.

So it is with the seeds of the Church in Iraq.

May 11, 2013 – A Special Day of Prayer for Syria

Please pray for Syria.

All churches in Syria will unite in prayer on Saturday 11 May in many places all around the war-torn nation. This is a unique moment of unity of Christians in that country. The Syrian Christians ask their brothers and sisters all around the world to pray with them on that day.

We as MEE field office want to invite all Development bases to contact your contacts to get as much as possible Churches and individual Christians to join in. This is a real request from the persecuted church to join with them in prayer. During the events there will be video recording and pictures will be taken. They will be made available afterwards. We have received a letter of the people coordinating this day of prayer:

“As you may know, the Christian church in Syria is experiencing a deep humanitarian crisis that is leading to the rapid loss of hope. In the face of violence and persecution, our brothers and sisters are striving to keep their eyes on the Lord and seeking His face in their country.  Even in pain, suffering, and death, God is using the church to accomplish His plan.

On Saturday May 11th, 2013, Christians from different denominations such as Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant/Evangelical are joining together in prayer and fasting to plead before the Lord for His mercy on Syria and an end to the violence. Due to the dangers of traveling in combat zones, Christians will be limited to local meetings planned all across Syria during this day. These groups will be meeting in homes, meeting arenas and churches, and will be a mix of all denominationsChristians across Syria have asked that you join them in prayer on May 11th

This email is to invite you to help your brothers and sisters in Christ by praying and (if possible) fasting, and by please spreading the word about this unified prayer effort through your local prayer networks and churches. This will be a world-wide meeting of Christians in prayer, and we want all believers to have the chance to join.  

An email will follow with a list of prayer requests directly from the Christians living in Syria. Thank you for standing in the gap on behalf of the Syrian people and reflecting the love of Christ in your acts of worship.”

Almost all denominations in Syria agreed and want to be part of this day. In Damascus part of the churches will meet in an arena, but there will be prayer also in several suburbs of that city.

In Aleppo, the whole Christian community in Aleppo and surroundings are getting together to pray. “This is a huge deal as it has never happened in Syria before. They will have 2 meetings back to back, one hosted by the Catholic church and the other at an Orthodox church.”

The bishops and pastors from these churches have sent emails and letters to all bishops around Syria to inform them and ask them to gather and pray in their areas.

Of course all over the country there will be prayers held at churches and homes. Over twenty churches in Jaramanah (one of the suburbs of Damascus) will pray in their own churches and some will join in the arena.

Many priests and pastors in Syria are telling their denominations word wide to join in prayers too. We know that churches in Germany, France, Norway, India, Sweden, U.S.A, Canada are joining at that day.

The people working on this effort have been on fire to see God’s hand moving. Let’s please keep all of them in prayers.

One of the prayer requests is reconciliation among Christian denominations.

Hello, I am a scientists and an atheist, and my question is: Since the Bible has been scientifically disproven, as far as all the claims, you know, the theory of evolution, and archaeology, you know, Noah’s ark, Adam & Eve, since we know this didn’t happen because of our science, my question is: According to the Bible, how do we have free will, if God is this omniscient being, that knows everything about us, everything that we will do, and he pretty much knows our outcome before we’re even created, so he creates us, knowing everything we will do, we can’t surprise him by our actions, we have no free will. Our choices have been predetermined, and that the act of judgment is completely immoral, because he knows what we’re gonna do, nothing can surprise him.

It’s interesting that you began, by saying that, as an atheist, all of this has been disproved, and so you live with scientific materialism as your world view. I studied under John Polkinhorne at Cambridge University. You probably know the name- one of the world’s leading quantum physicists. He came to the exact opposite conclusion you did, while being a dean at King’s College, as quantum physicist, taking the same data you did. So, obviously, for a man of his intellectual ability, to come to a totally different conclusion, one would either have to say he is stupid to come to that conclusion, or else his empirical data is … I want to read to you what David Berlinski says about the scientific, naturalistic world view. He is one of the world’s leading physicists, who is an agnostic, but took issue with Richard Dawkin’s book „The God Delusion’, and wrote a book called „The Devil’s Delusion’. Here’s what he said,

  1. Has anyone provided proof of God’s inexistence? Not even close.
  2. Has quantum cosmology explained the emergence of the universe or why it is here? Not even close.
  3. Have the scientists explained why the universe is fine tuned to allow for the existence of life? Not even close.
  4. Are physicists and biologists even willing to believe in anything, as long as it is not religious thought? Close enough.
  5. Has rationalism and moral thought provided us with an understanding of what is good, what is right, and what is moral? Not close enough.
  6. Has secularism in the secular 20th century been a force for good? Not even close.
  7. Is there a narrow and oppressive orthodoxy being taught in the opinion of the sciences? Close enough.
  8. Does anything in the sciences or the philosophy justify the claim that religious belief is irrational? Not even in the ballpark.
  9. Is scientific atheism a frivolous exercise in intellectual contempt? Dead on.

Ethan (questioner), what you are wrestling with is not uncommon. Many people from a scientific and materialistic worldview will say what you’ve said, and will come to that conclusion. The problem is, what you’ve mispositioned is your concern between  determinism and free will. Your application could have gone in many directions, but you came to that one for some reason, which was unfortunate. In Cambridge, I listened to a talk, in 1990, by Stephen Hawking. As you know, he can’t speak, he uses a speech synthesizer. His whole talk was on determinism and freedom. Do you know what he concluded? That the tragedy with scientific materialism , if we take its assumptions, is that we are not free, we are totally determined. That was the world’s leading physicist at that time, saying, „The very thing you are asking of the Christian faith, he pinned on your backs (the scientific atheists). You can go online and trace it. And he said, „The only escape I have is since I don’t know what has been determined, I may as well not be. The whole auditorium moaned and groaned, with an escape hatch that he gave for himself, after telling us that we were completely determined. That’s Berlinski’s issue, that is actually something that even people like Dawkin’s will concede. Or, you read Stephen Pinker and the others, totally determined. So the question is: Were you free to ask this question?

If you are totally determined, you are prewired to think the way you do. The nature means you are hardwired to come to a conclusion. Out of flux, nothing but flux. What you put into the computer has to come out. But, you have to ask yourself: Are you making a truth claim? If you’re making a truth claim, you’re rising above the subjectivity, and the moment you claim a truth claim, you’re violating determinism.

Notite din predica: Am fost astazi prin Corint si m-am uitat la ruinele din Corint. In timp ce mergeam pe acolo mi-am dat seama ca tot ce este frumos si important in viata e Dumnezeu. Pietrele sunt pietre. Intr-o zi si pietrele astea pe care le iubim atat de mult si care se cheama casa noastra se vor duce. Si daca va ramane ceva in viata, iubitii Domnului, va ramane ce am facut pentru sufletul nostru. Nu stiu de ce apropierea mortii ma face sa dau mai mare importanta vietii. Sa nu va fie niciodata teama de intrebarile grele. Sa va fie teama doar atunci cand nu puneti intrebari. Sa nu va fie teama sa vorbiti despre cele mai grele intrebari ale sufletului vostru. Sa va fie teama de faptul ca nu mai aveti intrebari… Nu am auzit pe nimeni sa elogieze lucrurile cand moare- casa, masina, costumul…Dar, am auzit pe multi spunand, „As vrea sa am in clipa mortii, langa mine, pe cineva pe care l-am iubit si ma iubeste. Mai presus de orice, vrei sa fi inconjurat de oamenii pe care i-ai iubit.

Iubitii Domnului, in aceasta seara, am sa va vorbesc simplu, in aceasta seara care am dedicat-o familiilor- celor care sunt formate si celor care sunt in formare. O sa va spun in seara asta niste lucruri, care pe unii dintre dumneavoastra are sa va irite. Dar, nu-i nici o problema. Maniati-va si nu pacatuiti. Pe mine nu ma deranjeaza, de exemplu, ca cineva poate sa-mi spuna ceva sau sa se supere pe mine. Eu de altfel, eu cred ca la biserica trebuie sa ne intristam. Si daca intristarea e si dupa voia lui Dumnezeu sa ne si pocaim. Ca asa spune Biblia, ca intristarea duce la pocainta. Am venit cu sotia mea la biserica, eram la inceputuri si am venit cu ea de mana. Eu asa stiu sa vin cu ea la Biserica, de mana. Si nu-l mai fac azi lucrul asta, dar atunci il faceam. Si cand am intrat in biserica, cu sotia de mana, cineva a zis, „Uite-i pe astia cum sunt la biserica de mana si acasa vai si-amar de ei. Atat de tare s-a suparat sotia mea ca a vrut sa plece. Si i-am spus, „Sunt vorbe slabe, sunt vorbe care nu vin de la Dumnezeu.” Pe de alta parte, altcineva poate privi si sa stiti ca nu e evanghelie mai frumoasa decat sa-i aveti pe astia mici in brate, sa-i iubiti, sa veniti la biserica doi cate doi si sa plecati doi cate doi. Cea mai frumoasa predica pe care am vazut-o vreodata la biserica e un sot si sotie care se iubesc si copii, care sa stea in jurul tau si sa fi o mama si un tata binecuvantat. Voi sunteti cele mai frumoase predici.

Exista o teorie ciudata, cum ca omul stie sa iubeasca si cum ca iubirea este un tezaur a lumii acesteia. Exista o teorie ciudata, cum ca tema cea mai cunoscuta si mai cantata si laudata- oamenii spun, „Eu iubesc si vreau sa fiu iubit.” Numai ca, atunci cand spunem, „Te iubesc,” noi spunem la fel de mult iubesc pizza. Cumva ciudat, in viata aceasta, iubirea se amesteca. Am ajuns sa iubim despre iubire ca si ceva ce credem ca ne apartine, credem ca stim sa iubim si credem ca putem sa iubim. Priviti-ma in ochi in seara asta, cand va spun ca omul nu stie sa iubeasca. Pe pamantul acesta, va trebui sa inveti una dintre lectiile dureroase, ca habar n-ai cum sa iubesti. Am crezut ca stiu sa iubesc si am crezut ca imi este usor sa iubesc, pana ce mi-am dat seama ca, de fapt, ce numeam eu iubire, nu era altceva decat ceva ce pur si simplu Biblia o numea o iubire de sine. Stim bine ce ne datoreaza viata, stim bine ce ne datoreaza cel din jurul nostru. Stim bine ce datorie are mama, tata. Stim bine ce ar trebui sa fie bine pentru noi si asta o numim noi iubire. Adica, pana la urma, credem ca stim sa iubim.

Dar, va spun inaintea lui Dumnezeu ca nu stim sa iubim. Iubirile noastre sunt iubiri schimonosite, ticalosite, iubiri interesate si iubiri care seamana cu noi. In aceasta seara nu mi-e rusine sa recunosc ca eu n-am stiut sa iubesc pe pamantul acesta. Dar intr-o zi m-am intalnit cu cineva si m-am intalnit cu ceva, care m-a invatat sa iubesc. Dumneavoastra trebuie sa stiti ca Domnul Isus, mantuitorul sufletului nostru, Dumnezeu din Dumnezeu adevarat, Fiul lui Dumnezeu, cand a coborat pe pamantul acesta a coborat cu un mandat. Mandatul pe care Isus Hristos L-a acut este simplu: Sa ne invete sa iubim. Fiul lui Dumnezeu, in tot timpul vietii Sale scurte de 33 de ani un singur lucru si-a dorit- Sa invatam sa iubim, nu cum vrem noi, nu cum ne inchipuim noi, ci cu iubirea adevarata si curata. Eu am invatat ce inseaman sa iubesti privind spre Dumnezeu la Golgota. Locul in care in aceasta dupa masa vreau sa stau de vorba cu dumneavoastra despre iubirea din familie este crucea Domnului Isus Hristos. Iubirea fara cruce nu exista. Iubirea fara cruce nu este altceva decat un lucru usor si subtire in viata, pentru ca nu poti iubi fara crucea Domnului Isus Hristos. Acolo, la crucea Domnului Isus Hristos, ingenunchind la piciorul crucii Domnului Isus Hristos inveti ce inseamna iubirea.

Iubirea poate sa fie o vorba: Te iubesc, mi-esti draga ca luna de pe cer. Normal, ce ma costa sa-ti spun ca te iubesc ca luna de pe cer? Cum o masori? Zero. Nu poti sa o masori in nici un fel. Poti sa spui unei fete, poti sa spui unei sotii: Vreau sa-ti spun ca iti dau marea si cu sarea si dupa ce trece marea, ramane sarea. Asa de usor putem arunca cu vorbe ieftine. Poti sa spui: Te iubesc. Si ce te costa ca spui lucrul asta? Dar, asta nu-i dragoste. Poti sa-i canti si serenade sub luna, asta este felul usor, subtire. Dar, nu despre asta vorbeste Hristos. Un Hristos rastignit in maini si picioare, a spus, „Va iubesc.” Si acolo trebuie sa invatam iubirea. Acolo, la cruce, la Golgota se invata ce inseamna sa iubesti. In aceasta seara, as vrea sa va spun un lucru. Intotdeauna sa aveti la voi in casa crucea Domnului Isus Hristos. Intotdeauna sa aveti la voi in inima voastra crucea Domnului Isus Hristos. Nu sti sa iubesti ca parinte, nu sti sa iubesti ca mama, sau ca sot, ca sotie, ca tanara- despartiti de crucea Domnului Isus Hristos, iubirea noastra seamana cu noi. E o iubire stramba, o iubire egoista, o iubire interesata, o iubire pe care nu o vrea nimeni. Singura iubire adevarat e Isus Hristos la Golgota. Primul cuvant la cruce – Iarta

In seara aceasta as vrea sa stam la cruce, sa invatam cateva lucruri simple. Daca le-am uitat pe astea, noi nu mai avem nimic. Eu nu iti spun cum sa iti sarbatoresti ziua, sau sa-ti faci tort sau nu, sa cumperi cadou sau nu. Dar, iti spun un singur lucru: Cand nu mai ai cruce in viata ta, nici iubirea ta nu mai exista, pentru ca nimic in afara de cruce se poate sa fie numit iubire. Cand Domnul Isus a stat rastignit pe cruce, stiti care a fost primul lucru pe care L-a rostit Domnul Isus Hristos? „Tata, iarta-i ca nu stiu ce fac.” Cel dintai cuvant al crucii a fost IERTARE- cuvantul iertarii. Cand i-am dat sotiei mele primul cadou, primul cadou care i-am dat sotiei mele a fost o carte. Am stat si m-am gandit vreo doua zile, ce sa-i scriu ca si dedicatie pe acea carte. Era primul meu salariu, era primul cadou pe care i l-am facut sotiei mele. Dupa ce am stat vreo doua zile sa ma gandesc, i-am spus acest lucru, parca intr-un spirit profetic: „Iarta-ma- este cuvantul omului care iubeste” Pentru ca de 20 de ani, ceea ce fac in continu e sa cer iertare sotiei mele, pentru tot ceea ce nam fost, pentru ceea ce nu ia-m oferit si pentru ceea ce n-am stiut sa fiu. Nu mi-e rusine sa spun ca cine iubeste va gasi cuvantul ‘Iarta-ma’. Orice om care a invatat iubirea va sti ca pe pamantul acesta va trebui sa foloseasca des cuvantul ‘Iarta-ma’- pentru dezamagirile care ti le-am creat, pentru tacerile vinovate. Iarta-ma pentru ceea ce n-am fost si pentru ceea ce nu sunt.

Cand m-am intalnit cu Isus Hristos am invatat ca pot folosi cuvantul iarta-ma, ca el este temelia iubirii. Pana la Isus Hristos n-am stiut nici daca ma taiai si-mi punea-i sare pe rana. Pentru ca suntem incapatanati si nu vrem sa rostim acest cuvant. Acest cuvant ‘iarta-ma’, nu se rosteste oricand. Acest cuvant a fost rostit in cel mai greu ceas. In ceasul acela in care ai toata dreptatea din lume. Toata dreptatea din lume era a Domnului Isus Hristos. Si totusi, macar ca avea toata dreptatea, ce a rostit? Iarat-i! Pe cine sa-I ierti, pe cei care Te-au rastignit? Pe aceea care te-au dus la cruce, pe nerecunoscatorii acestia care  au facut ce au vrut din Tine? Dar, Dumnezeu spune in familie, ca cuvantul ‘iarta-ma’ nu se foloseste pentru ca cineva are merit. Sa-l spui in ceasul cel mai greu. Sa-l spui atunci cand esti nedreptatit. Sa-l spui atunci cand nu are dreptate cel de langa tine. Dar sa te duci si sa te uiti in ochii lui si sa spui, „Iarta-ma daca ti-am gresit.” Pentru ca cuvantul acesta este de la Dumnezeu.

Asteptam de cele mai multe ori ca un proces juridic, sa ni se arate dovezile. Si dupa ce ni s-au aratat dovezile, punem capul in jos si spunem, „Iarta-ma.” Inseamna ca tu nu ai invatat ce este o cruce. Haideti sa va spun un lucru simplu. Ma mai cert uneori cu Mina, din ce in ce mai rar pentru ca imabtranim. Suntem doi vulcani, sa stiti ca suntem extrem de dinamici, si cand ne certam suntem dinamici. Am invatat un lucru: Cand nu ajungem al nici un intelesea pleaca spre partea opusa a casei si eu spre partea cealalta a casei. Si m-am dus de fiecare data cand am avut un moment greu. Stiti ce am facut? M-am rugat lui Dumnezeu. Cand am vazut ca nu am ajuns la nici un inteles, pana la urma ce iti foloseste  sa spui, „N-ai dreptate?” „Ba, am dreptate.” „N-ai dreptate.”… Poti sa o ti asa o zi. La ce-ti foloseste? Stiti cum este omul? Intr-un recipient exista focul si in celalalt exista benzina. Ce vrei sa pui pe foc aceea vei pune. Cel mai bine e sa te pui sa te rogi. Cand ai stat la rugaciune, ce ti-a spus Dumnezeu? Mai, ce dreptate ai tu, barbatule. Du-te si mai spune vreo doua. Ai dreptate, ce nedreptatit esti tu, saracul de tine… Asa ti-o spus Dumnezeu? Ti-a spus, „Iarta-o, ca si Eu te-am iertat pe tine. Fii mai ingaduitor, o fii mai obosita. Poate ar trebui sa te impaci, nu stati certati, ca a asfintit soarele si cand va treziti maine dimineata sunteti mai rai ca acuma.”

Orice om care sta de vorba cu Dumnezeu va primi un raspuns simplu: Iart-o, ca asa te-am iertat si Eu pe tine.  Iarta-l, ca asa te-am iertat si Eu pe tine. Primul cuvant la cruce, pe care va trebui sa-l gasim in familiile noastre este IARTA-MA. Iertarea nu-i pe merit. Dar spune-mi cum sa te iert, daca n-am motive. Atunci nu te-ai intalnit cu Dumnezeu. Nu cauta motive sa ma ierti pentru ca Isus Hristos ne-a iubit si ne-a iertat si atunci eu trebuie sa am din dragostea Lui. „Dar, eu n-am motive sa te iert!” Foarte bine, atunci fii Hristic, fii Dumnezeiesc. Dumnezeu n-a venit sa spuna, „Florine, da-mi 5 motive sa te iert.” Nici unul nu a auvt. El a zis, „Te iubesc,” si cuvantul omului care iubeste este IARTA-MA. Gauguin, the post impressionist painter, painted large and very graphic pictures, particularly of women from the islands. He led a dissolute life, although brought up as a Roman Catholic and catechized, and he was not known for writing on his paintings, apart from signing them. But, on one of his most famous paintings, depicting the journey of man form birth to the grave, he wrote on the top corner, he wrote 3 questions: Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going? Unfortunately, he had no answers for those questions. He died in his fifties, as a result, really, of a life that was lived in excess, without finding answers to those questions.

In contrast, the catechism, the Heidelberg (corrupted a little), asks the question: What is our only hope in life and death? And it provides an answer: That we are not our own, but belong, body and soul, both in life and death to God and to our Savior, Jesus Christ. You see, one of the distinguishing marks of a Christian, of a Christian worldview is to be found in the way in which  he or she views the passing of time and the ordering of the events of life. To think Christianly is to have a radical shift in the way in which we view all of these issues and to be able to affirm, „My times, o God is in your hands,” is a Christian thing to do. And so, I want to say just 3 things on the strength of that this morning:

32 S’au dus apoi într’un loc îngrădit, numit Ghetsimani. Şi Isus a zis ucenicilor Săi: ,,Şedeţi aici pînă Mă voi ruga.„ 33 A luat cu El pe Petru, pe Iacov şi pe Ioan, şi a început să Se spăimînte şi să Se mîhnească foarte tare.

34 El le -a zis: ,,Sufletul Meu este cuprins de o întristare de moarte; rămîneţi aici, şi vegheaţi!„ 35 Apoi a mers puţin mai înainte, S’a aruncat la pămînt, şi Se ruga ca, dacă este cu putinţă, să treacă de la El ceasul acela. 36 El zicea: ,,Ava, adică: Tată, -Ţie toate lucrurile Îţi sînt cu putinţă; depărtează de la Mine paharul acesta! Totuş, facă-se nu ce voiesc Eu, ci ce voieşti Tu.„

37 Şi a venit la ucenici, pe cari i -a găsit dormind. Şi a zis lui Petru: ,,Simone, tu dormi? Un ceas n’ai fost în stare să veghezi? 38 Vegheaţi şi rugaţi-vă, ca să nu cădeţi în ispită; duhul este plin de rîvnă, dar trupul este neputincios.„ 39 S’a dus iarăş, şi S’a rugat, zicînd aceleaşi cuvinte.

40 Apoi S’a întors din nou şi i -a găsit dormind; pentrucă li se îngreuiaseră ochii de somn. Ei nu ştiau ce să -I răspundă. 41 În sfîrşit, a venit a treia oară, şi le -a zis: ,,Dormiţi de acum, şi odihniţi-vă! Destul! A venit ceasul! Iată că Fiul omului este dat în mînile păcătoşilor. 42 Sculaţi-vă; haidem să mergem; iată că se apropie vînzătorul!„

Tot alergam dupa un Eden care nu mai vine. Fiecare s-ar multumi sa gaseasca un coltisor, unde sa stea el cu familia lui si cu copiii pe care i-a dat Dumnezeu. Cred ca toata viata alergam dupa un loc unde sa ne fie bine. Iubitii Domnului, gradina Edenului nu o sa o mai gasim. Gradina Edenului e numai la Dumnezeu sus in cer. Aici, pe pamantul acesta avem ce avem. In seara aceasta m-am gandit sa va vorbesc despre o gradina mai frumoasa decat a Edenului. Am vrut sa va vorbesc un crampei despre ce s-a intamplat in gradina Ghetsimani. Va spun de ce si va rog sa ma ascultati bine, inainte de a ma judeca aspru.

Cand Il vad si Ii vad maretia Domnului Isus Hristos, , cand ii vad sacrificiul si lepadarea de Sine, mi se face rusine de ce sunt eu. Atunci cand ma uit si-L vad pe Isus Hristos, la straja a treia a diminetii, venind si umbland pe apa, eu nici odata nu ma pot compara cu un asemenea Isus. Si niciodata, cand ma uit la un asemenea Hristos, imi vine sa zic, „Doamne, ce distanta este intre mine si tine. Eu nu o sa fiu niciodata in felul asta.” Cand ma uit, cand a ridicat mana si a zis, „Lazare, iesi afara,” si Lazar, mort de 4 zile a iesit, m-am intrebat de multe ori, ce legatura poate sa fie intre mine si acest Dumnezeu? Eu nu ma vad cu rugaciunea mea miscand lucruri simple. Daramite, asa lucruri mari facand. Cand ma uit la Domnul Isus Hristos si la puterea care a avut-o si cand ma uit la ceea ce este El si la ceea ce sunt eu, de multe ori ma apuca descurajarea, de multe ori ma apuca gandul asta si zic, „Doamne, cine esti Tu si cine sunt eu?” Puteti primi cuvantul asta cu smerenie? Sunte, atat de marunti fata de acest Dumnezeu atat de mare. Marunti in vorbele noastre, marunti in gandurile noastre, in atitudinile noastre. Marunti in tot ce suntem noi. Oamenii sunt marunti. Dumnezeu e mare.

Daca ar fi ramas Biblia numai aici, probabil ca m-as fi simtit descurajat. Dar intr-o seara, Domnul Isus a ajuns in gradina Ghetsimani. Si L-am vazut pe Dumnezeul slavei, pe acel imparat puternic, prabusindu-se in gradina Ghetsimani. Stand cu teama in suflet si avand o rugaciune diferita de tot ce am stiut. Si pentru prima data m-am simtit atat de aproape de acest Hristos, pentru ca mai mult pe pamantul acesta mi-e familiar plansul decat rasul. Mai obisnuit sunt sa stau cu nasul in jos, decat cu el pe sus. Mai obisnuit imi este pe pamantul acesta sa fi cunoscut gustul infrangerii decat a victoriei. Si in aceasta seara, vreau sa va spun iubitii Domnului in numele Domnului Isus Hristos, ca am ales sa predic din gradina Ghetsimani, pentru ca aici Hristos e intr-un fel pe care pot sa spun, „Doamne, un pic seman si eu cu Tine aici.” Parca, pentru prima data seman si eu un pic cu Dumnezeu, pentru ca Il vad pe Domnul Isus inspaimantat, Il vad pe Domnul Isus Hristos, acolo, ingenunchiat, prabusit si eu vreau sa va intreb in numele Domnului Isus Hristos, „Va este familiara aceasta stare?” Intrebati-va pe voi insiva, daca sunteti intr-un moment de sinceritate. Cine suntem noi si cat suntem noi, lasand la o parte ceea ce cateodata nu ne convine sa spunem, lasand la o parte faptul ca ne e greu sa recunaostem. Lasand la o parte faptul ca a-ti arata o slabiciune astazi, s-ar putea sa regreti dupa aceea, ca ti-ai aratat o slabiciune in fata unui om.

In momentele noastre de sinceritate, in momentele noastre cu noi insine, cat suntem noi de puternici? De aceea, va rog sa-mi permiteti sa va vorbesc despre aceasta gradina Ghetsimani, in care ma simt mai om, ca niciodata. In gradina Ghetsimani imi permit sa fiu ceea ce sunt cand nu ma vede nimeni…. No matter how much someone believes this idea, this relativism, nobody lives this way, because what you do is you find something that is near and dear to them, like their wallet. And you say, „Well, what if your boss’s individual truth is that you only worked 20 hours this week, but, your truth was that you worked 40. How would you feel about that. Would those both be true? In India, relativism is very big, and Ravi Zacharias has a great one liner. He says, „Even in India, we look both ways before we cross the street. It’s either the bus or me. The idea is that if one thing is true, the opposite is false. This is the law of noncontradiction. It’s unforgiving, and it’s true in all cases. The idea is to find some real world examples when someone is giving you this relativism proposition. Such as: Would you like your surgeon to have his own individual absolute truth? I don’t think so. When you go to a doctor, you want someone that’s objective.

The Law on Non-Contradiction

street evangelismThis is the law that something cannot be both true and untrue, at the same time, and when dealing in the same context. In the law of non-contradiction, we have a set of statements about a subject, we cannot have the same set that negate it, the truth of the statement in the same set. Some things are contradictions, some aren’t. Like in the Bible, one that skeptics try to bring up is the fact that Judas hung himself. And in another Gospel, it says Judas fell down and his bowels spilled out. This is not a case of contradiction because neither statement about Jesus contradicts the other. Because if it was gonna be that, it would be ‘Judas hung himself’- ‘Judas didn’t hang himself’. But, it doesn’t say that, it’s really not a contradiction. It has to be in the same category. You could easily think of a scenario where he hung himself, and then his bowels spilled out- and that’s not a contradiction. So, it’s important to see the distinction that they cannot both be true, at the same time, when dealing in the same context. So, context is part of the equation.

The suicide tactic (self refuting statements)

This takes advantage of the fact that unbelievers often commit intellectual suicide- that is they refute themselves. These views are what we call ‘necessarily false’. There’s no possible worlds where we can imagine this. It defeats itself, it commits suicide. Suppose someone would say to you, „You can’t know anything for sure.” „Are you sure about that?” Or, „You can never know the truth about religion.” „Well, how did you come to that truth about religion?” Some are pretty funny, like, „Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.” Or, „I used to believe in reincarnation, but, that was in a former life.” There is a website http://www.proofthatGodexists.org , go work on some of those questions and it’s a good one to send to some of your skeptic friends. So, the suicide tactic takes advantage of the fact that two contradictory statements cannot be true at the same time. How to recognize if a point of view commits suicide:

  1. Identify the basic premise
  2. Does the claim undermine itself?

Sometime it’s not immediately obvious. Consider this one, that comes up around election time. Say you have a non Christian liberal leaning friend who criticizes you by saying this, „God doesn’t take sides in politics”. You can use your Columbo tactic and ask, „What do you mean by that?” „Well, God doesn’t take sides.” Then you can ask him, „Well, how do you think God feels about that?” Again he says, „God doesn’t take sides.” And you say, „Okay, so if we were to ask God about this, he owuld agree with you, right?” He would say, „Yes”. „Oh, so God would be on your side?” Here is where it is internally contradictory. Sometimes it’s tricky like that, it’s hidden inside the statement, so you have to think about it for a while. Like we were saying yesterday (in part 1) you don’t have to answer right away, you can just say, „I wanna go home and think about it.”

Do you see the internal contradictions here?

  • It’s wrong to try to change other people’s religious beliefs. Well, what is a Christian person’s belief? We have the great commission, we believe in evangelizing people and reaching the lost, , so they’re trying to change our religious belief. So, if it’s wrong, why are you trying to change my belief? We have a contradiction here.
  • All religions are equally true and valid. This one is not self evident. But, if you think through: What do CHristians believe, and this is the part of how it works. You have to know what you believe, in order to defend it, and that’s the mind set I’m trying to get you in. I know you guys know these things, but, you’re just not used to thinking in this way. So, if all religions are true, then Christianity is true. But, the essential claim of Christianity is that all the other religions are not true, that they’re false. You violate the first commandment, „You shall have no other Gods before me”. So, if our religion is true, then they (the other religions) can’t be true. So, either Christianity is true and the others are false, or vice versa. Either way, all religions cannot be true.
  • You can only know what has been proven by science. This is the big one, that most atheists and skeptics will come out with. You have to ask: Does this claim meet its own standard of truth? Now, did they arrive at this statement through a scientific method? What kind of experiments did they do to know that you can only know what’s proven through science? None. It implies that the speaker knows something that wasn’t proven by science. It self destructs because they didn’t use the scientific method to come up with this truth. So, if only science can teach us what we know, this is something we know science didn’t teach us. So, it’s internally contradictory. I like science. I studied computer science my first time through. I took physics and chemistry, and I read some of the things the new atheists say, and you get the idea that they think that science has proven that miracles are not possible, and that science has debunked the claims of the Bible. This is called a category error in logic, in philosophy. Here’s a good illustration. Can you weigh a chicken with a yardstick. No, you can’t do that. The yard stick is made for measuring length. But, does that mean the chicken has no weight? No. What I’m getting at is that science, by design, measures physical properties in a natural world. By category, it doesn’t deal with anything supernatural. It excludes that before it even starts. So, how can it disprove something it cannot even try to measure. It’s really like trying to measure a chicken’s weight with a yard stick. It really doesn’t even have anything to say about it. (14:35)
  • There is no truth. First thing you wanna do is turn this into a question and ask, „Why should I believe that?” Is that a true claim? This is a post modern claim that denies that we can know real truth about anything. We can’t know truth, but we know this *the statement that there is no truth) to be true. It can’t work. Resolve of the debate: Objective truth exists and we can know it. It’s what corresponds to reality. It tells it like it is, it describes the actual state of affairs. Jesus actually gave a reason why He came into the world, in the Gospel of John. Our biblical postmodernist Pontius Pilate was confronting Jesus and he said, „So are you a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” John 18:37 So, this concept of truth is foundational to the Gospel. If you think about what a clever strategy of Satan’s, this idea of postmodernism is, because, more than denying that we need a Savior, or denying the existence of God, this just pulls the rug right from under everything. If there’s no truth, you can’t really believe in anything. That really undermines the Gospel in a big way. (16:35)

Francis Schaeffer – Taking the Roof Off

Atheists and unbelievers are living in a world with a logical fallacy with a false idea in their worldview. And our job is to find it. Point of fact: Man is made in the image of God. We must live in the world that God created. So, every person who is a non theist must live with some contradiction, because what he believes is not actually true. In a real sense, every man who denies God is living on borrowed capital. He enjoys living in a world that is full of morality, meaning, order, beauty. Yet, he denies the God who grants these things and makes them possible. Because of this, non Christians live this contradictory world which creates a point of tension between what they believe and what is actually true. Man has erected a subconscious self deception. As Francis Schaeffer puts it, it’s a roof  to protect him from considering the consequences of his beliefs. So, your goal is to expose and remove the roof, to expose the fraud and deprive him of that false sense of security.

Schaeffer„Every man has built a roof over his head to shield himself at the point of tension…The Christian lovingly, must remove the shelter and allow the truth of the external world and of what man is to beat upon him. When the roof if off, each man must stand naked and wounded before the truth of what is…He must come to know that his roof is a false protection from the storm of what is.” Francis Schaeffer, The God Who is There, in The Complete Works of Francis Schaeffer (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Books, 1982), 1:140-41. So when you find the place where the point of tension exists, you exploit it gently, but directly. This is where a well place question, like the third one in the Columbo tactic can be very effective. Your goal is to cause him a little bit of pain, and push him off balance, but, it’s to direct him towards the truth.

The taking the roof off tactic:

  1. Adopt the other person’s point of view (for the sake of argument).
  2. Press their view to the logical and absurd consequence. In latin – Reductio ad absurdum – argument from absurdity.(19:10) Ask, if this were true, what would be the consequence of this view?
  3. Invite them to consider the implications of this view.

Now, one that’s really hot right now- consider homosexuality. The world would have us celebrate is acceptable and as a healthy expression of  sexuality. So, let’s take the roof off that belief, let’s reduce it to its basic premise that – homosexuality is a healthy expression of sexuality. Now, let’s follow that premise consistently. Suppose that everyone in the world was to adopt it. What were to occur if we did that? The human race would cease to exist within one lifetime. What does that tell us about the basic principle? It can’t be healthy if it kills the human race.

The Steamroller

Have you ever gotten into a discussion where  a person will not let you get in a word?  There is a tactical way to deal with that. What is the steamroller? It is people who overpower you with the force of their personality. They have strong opinions and big mouths. They mean to keep you off balance. They put you on the defensive by overwhelming you with facts, lots of noise. They come off fast and furious, keeping you from collecting your wits and getting a thoughtful answer. So, how do you deal with these people. The steamroller characteristic is that they are constantly interrupting you.

3 steps in dealing with a steamroller:

  1. Stop the interruption graciously, but firmly and negotiate an agreement. Now, you might just have to let them go for awhile. Don’t try to jump in and interrupt them. Many times, you can just hold up your hand and interrupt them. Say, „Hey, I wasn’t quite finished yet.” Or ask for a little more time, ” Hold on a minute, I need a little more time. You asked a good question and you deserve an answer. Are you interested in what I have to say? Can you wait?” If they are especially aggressive, calmly wait for an opening. Don’t try to talk over them, just let them have their run. And then, here’s the real crux on how to deal with a person like this. You negotiate an agreement with them and you have to be real specific. You ask them to give you something -patience, so you can give them something in return, the opportunity to respond to a question. One way you might respond is, „Is it okay for you, if I take a few moments to answer your question, before you ask another one? Then, I’ll give you a chance to ask another one, when I get done.” You’re negotiating some terms, is the idea I want you to get in mind. Or, you can say, „I know it’s a lot easier to ask hard questions, than to listen to hard answers. But, I need a moment to explain myself. Is that okay?” Or, „Let me answer your first challenge, when I’m done you can jump in again. Is that okay?” Or, „That’s a good question, that deserves a good answer. Let me try to give you one.” The idea is to ask them for their permission and come to an agreement.
  2. Shame them. We’re dealing with a steamroller personality, and the best thing is to show them they agreed to listen to your answer, yet they violated it again.
  3. Leave them. A lot of times this is not going to work, so that is when you leave them. When all fails, leave them. If they won’t let you answer, listen politely, let them have the last word and just walk away. Wisdom dictates that you’re not gonna waste your time with someone that’s gonna be a fool. And Jesus told us not to cast our pearls before swine. In Luke 9 he said, „And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town, shake the dust off your feet, as a testimony against them.” There’s a point where that becomes necessary.

But, here’s the little 3 step process, and a lot of times it works. Most people do have a sense of politeness, but, they just get excited. And, not every steam roller is a ‘pearls before swine’ situation. But, a lot of times, by the second time that you bring out the agreement that they violated, the shame factor does work.

The guy I learned these techniques from is Greg Koukl, and his website is Stand to Reason http://www.str.org He has a 3 hour radio show, in the afternoons, in the Los Angeles area, and he gets all kinds of calls with Bible questions, theology, apologetics, and he uses this all the time. The main idea in how to debate is to keep asking questions, and putting the other person on the defensive- because they are making the claims, and they need to prove them, and not shift the burden on  you.

Prepare for encounters

  2. Study these tactics.
  3. Push yourself beyond your comfort zone. You will get better, and remember, we’re not trying to win arguments, we’re trying to win people.
  4. Don’t be discouraged by outward appearances. Don’t be afraid. You don’t always have to hit home runs. Ask them, „Let me think about it. Just give me your reasons for what you think… I mean, this is the first time I’ve heard this. I’d like to go home and think about it.”

Matthew 10:16 – Jesus said, „Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and as innocent as doves.” That tells us right there, that the ‘wise as serpents’ is a tactical approach. This is our great commission. This is what the Lord told us to do, to be ambassadors.So practice this, and think about the things you say to people, and how it went, and maybe write some of this down. If you have a friend (or a family member), that has a certain belief, go look up some things about them. If you have a hindu friend, they believe in some 30 million gods. Did you know that? But, you would have to be able to answer his questions (Chris gives an example of what to ask at the 37th minute). Hindus also believe in Karma. They believe that everything bad that happens to you in this life is the result of something you did in another life. But, they don’t believe in original sin, which is what we believe in. We don’t believe in karma, but, we believe in a sin nature. We believe that we inherited Adam’s sin, and that we’re all under a curse. The problem with karma is that, if you don’t have an original sin, then where did the first one start? The first evil act can’t be the result of karma, because there was no original sin. It is incoherent, because there is no way to start it (karma). If you look at what they believe, they have an endless cycle of time going back in history and it’s completely irrational.

What I was telling you earlier is that people who don’t believe always violate one of these laws of logic. Another law of logic that is foundational is called the law of causality. This is where the cosmological proof for the existence of God comes from. It says that everything that begins to exist, every effect has a cause. So, you can’t have an infinite regress. You can’t have an endless cycle. That’s irrational. So, if everything that begins to exist has a cause, and even all the atheistic sciences will tell you that they believe in a thing called the big bang. Well, the big bang needs a banger. You can’t deny causality. If something begins to exist, and the universe began to exist, even all physicists say this. And so, they come up with irrational explanations. They say it came to exist from nothing. If you read Stephen Hawking’s newest book, he basically tries to say that nothing isn’t really nothing. All the equations say there was nothing and then there was everything. Now, they wanna say: Nothing is really not nothing. It’s this mix of matter and anti-matter, and these particles reacted. But, wait a minute. Where did the matter in anti-matter come from? That’s not nothing. They always deny something. It’s either – you can’t deny causality, so they change the definition of nothing. Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. This is a great apologetic. If you look at other world religions, especially at Islam, Islam believes that Allah has a big scale, where he weighs the evil and the good in men’s hearts. And, if your good is more than the evil, then you get to go to heaven. And, in all other world religions you are judged by your works. That can make sense, because as people, don’t we like to believe that we deserve what we are getting? We have human pride, and part of it is our sin nature, and some of it is legitimate, but, to me, I can’t see how men could have come up with this doctrine of grace. If the skeptics idea is true, that these guys sat around and wrote the New Testament, just made this up, why would they make up something like: By grace you have been saved. It doesn’t make sense that men made that up. I think it came from God. Because men like to earn it, they like to show off. They like to take pride and say, „Hey, I deserve to go to heaven.” You know what? I don’t. It’s only by the blood of Jesus that I’m getting there. Everyone that’s honest would admit that. But, does that make sense that anybody would make that up? I don’t think so. Just look at the Pharisees. That was the whole thing with Jesus and the Pharisees. So, I think grace is an authentication, because only God would come up with that. I don’t think we would be capable of it, we’re too obsessed with it, in our pride.

By the way, faith is not believing in something that you have no evidence for, faith is more like trust. We trust in Jesus Christ.

I usually post spectacular videos of the universe, of nature, but this time, I am just in awe of this 4 year old boy, Clayton Manwaring (at the time, he is 5 now) who sings a song about Jesus, after having just eaten a red popsicle (hence the red lips).

Morocco considers apostasy rules.

Morocco (MNN) – Morocco’s Islamic council is considering the death penalty for apostasy. Greg Mussleman is a spokesman for the Voice of the Martyrs Canada. He says the mask is off. „It surprises me in one sense, that it has come out, there, that the government is kind of pushing for it. The militants want to eradicate Christianity, or any other religion, and make it 100% Muslim.” Moroccan believers now meet in small groups for fear of persecution. Christians are concerned that if the edict passes, things will be harder for them than they already are. „What happens often is that the more pressure that is put on those pastors, Christians become even more determined in sharing their faith.” Anti-Christian sentiment is growing in the country. „Pray that the church would be strong, that they would see this as an attack against them, but to be reminded that the battle is not against flesh and blood, so it’s not against the government there or even the militant Muslims.”
