John Piper on his recent hospitalization

The Gospel Herald shares some wise words from John Piper who had a brief, undisclosed health issue, which required a 30 hour hospitalization stay. The good news is Piper says the doctors have not modified his daily schedule, but just prescribed some new medication and he is feeling fine. Here’s what John Piper says he learned from this:

„All of these are things I needed God’s help with. I was surprised how difficult it was for me to focus on anything, and therefore, how vulnerable I felt spiritually,” says the former pastor. Though Piper knew to set his mind on the Spirit when tempted to fear or to be irritated, doing so did not come easy in his pain.

Philippians 2:14 says that we should do all things without murmuring. Though there are at times delays and inefficiencies with hospital care, Piper says he tried to focus on the fact that he was receiving better medical treatment than the vast majority of the world has to offer and to be thankful for advances in medicine and technology that allows patients to receive pain medication and life-saving medical procedures.

Piper encourages those who are in need of hospitalization to try hard not to be distracted by all of the commotion in the surrounding atmosphere – from nurses and family members checking on other patients to one’s own physical pain and the television in the room. „This was a trial to my spirit. In the very moment when I needed to be still and know that God is God, my heart was off-balance with distraction,” he says – „I had to pray, and concentrate, and recite Scripture to myself to regain my spiritual stability.” God sometimes brings His children to places where someone might need to hear the Gospel or to be comforted, and Piper encourages the church to be attentive to His leading. „Pray for the patients near you and, if possible – without undue offense – see if your roommate will let you pray for him, and tell him words of hope in Jesus,” Piper says. –

Piper reminds us that physical suffering and the brokenness of this world tangibly demonstrates the horror of sin. „We all share in these groanings. Horrible groanings in the case of the worst cancers and maiming accidents,” he says, referring to Romans 8:18-25. „For God’s children, this is not punishment. Christ bore that. This is the lot of every man to bear the physical sign of the horrors of moral evil. This physical pain points to how ugly sin is.”

Florin Ianovici – Tac, deci vorbesc!

Dezlegaţi-i şi aduceţi-i la Mine! Dacă vă va zice cineva ceva, să-i spuneţi că Domnul are nevoie de ei.

„Spuneţi-i fiicei Sionului:

The Triumphal Entry Matthew 21:1-11

21 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.” This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying,

“Say to the daughter of Zion,
‘Behold, your king is coming to you,
humble, and mounted on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”

The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” 10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”

Florin Ianovici – De Florii – Osana ! Ajuta-ma !

hosanna

Photo – www.bible-history.com  Cetatea Ierusalimului-primul secol

Mare lucru e sa simti cercetarea Domnului. Ierusalime, am venit la tine si am dorit sa te strang sub aripile mele, cum isi strange gaina puii. Ii rau sub aripa lui Dumnezeu? Zi-i tu. Te vei duce acasa… asta-i paradoxul vietii noastre.

Tu in dreptul tau, eu in dreptul meu. Sunt intre mine si Dumnezeu atatea lucruri. Da? E o ispita a ta. Nu pleca in vesnicie certat.

Aveti mancare pe masa, hai, bucurati-va ca-i sarbatoare.” Acolo erau prietenii si a venit si o femeie si le-a stricat petrecerea. A venit o femeie si a ruinat Duminica Floriilor. A intrat. Mare deranj, asa-i?

Primul lucru pe care i l-a reprosat Domnul Isus, a zis, „Tu nu esti in pace, Simone. Tu esti framantat.”

Spalatul picioarelor insemenaza urmatorul lucru, dragii mei: Sa racoresti inima lui Dumnezeu. Sti cum racoresti inima lui Dumnezeu? Iubindu-ti sotul, iubindu-ti sotia. Iubindu-ti copiii, iubind vecinul ala rau, care da muzica tare. Iubind pe mama si pe tata. Iubind pe cel ce te uraste. Spunand oamenilor ca in Dumnezeu exista iertare. Asa racoresti inima Domnului.

Asa-i?

In traducere: ajuta. Osana inseamna ajuta. Osana! Ajuta-mi Doamne!
