I am nervous, because if you would have asked me last week if I was even coming here to the convention, I would have said, „No.” Let alone, I never imagined I’d be up here speaking . But, here I am and I am thankful for the opportunity, and I just wanna share a few thoughts really quickly as to what the RBYA is doing  and just in regards to some thoughts to the youth.

I am not a pastor, I am not a speaker and the easiest thing I can do is share some thoughts, some things that I have seen in my life and where I live, in regards to the youth. And, what sticks out the most  to me is that its becoming more and more difficult to be a young person and a Christian. To be a believer, as a young person, we find ourselves challenged more and more, by this world telling us that God does not exist, that what we’re doing is crazy, and it doesn’t make sense. And, that we just live our lives for our own pleasure. And I was reading this past week in 2 Timothy  chapter 3, and I wanna read just a couple of verses:

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

And I was thinking to myself: Isn’t this the culture we are finding ourselves, as young people within our schools, growing up, the people we are surrounded with? Unfortunately, it would be beautiful if we could always be surrounded by our fellow brothers and sisters, but, we go to school 5 days a week, or go to work 5 days a week, some people even more. And we’re constantly surrounded by people of different faiths, people who don’t believe and people who are telling us just do what you want.

And, I’m just sitting here and thinking, „It’s easy to say. That’s just the world outside and us.” But, as we read these, we sit back, reflect and think, „Isn’t this something that we can say a lot of times about ourselves? About our youth? And, it’s interesting that the first thing I see here is  „people will be lovers of themselves”. And it goes through a long list, and from what I see and what I understand, the problem stems from this first part- people are gonna be lovers of themselves, rather than lovers of God. And we’re faced with this challenge. God, and Jesus Christ and the Gospel, as brother Percy mentioned, gives us this command: „Love God with all your heart, soul, strength, mind”, and the next thing He says is „Love your neighbor as yourself.” This is the example that we see over and over from Christ: Love others before yourself. And that is our calling as Christians- to love others before us.

And so, it’s becoming increasingly difficult and challenging to do that in a culture that tells you, „Go, and just seek fun. Seek pleasure. Do whatever seems right to you.” You grow up and you go to school and you think the whole time that you’re gonna try and accomplish 3 things: Either find success through a good job, through a lot of money, find power, fame or popularity. Do these things and this will make you happy and this will be a fulfilling life. And it is so opposite to what we see Christ telling us to do. And this is where RBYA comes in, this is kind of where we have been working towards, and our desire to do is to challenge the youth and to find youth that are passionate , who are taking their relationship with Christ seriously and who desire to do His work for His glory, not their own.

And, the one thing I would say is we need you to help us, because we are very limited in what we can do. Some of you may think we just put out a few events a year and that is all we really do. Our desire is so much more than that.  and we have been working hard to partner alongside churches, to partner alongside leaders, not just youth pastors, but young people who are serious about their relationship, who are serious about serving. And I can tell you, in 3 years, praise God that there are still youth who are on fire for God, who are passionate about serving, who are passionate about going overseas, who are passionate about sharing in their school, workplace, wherever they are.

And I just wanna challenge you as parents to continue to be involved with your childrenAt 25 years of age, I can tell you that the people I look up to the most are my parents. People who I listen to the most, and who I  go to for advice, and have the utmost respect for, are my parents. And they’re the ones who I saw Christ in. Because they modeled it for me, I took it after them. We can’t expect the church to raise them and as a church we can’t expect other people to do it. We’re all waiting for somebody else. As a church, I say, „Pray. Please pray for us, pray for the youth because we are getting challenged so much more in living a godly, pure and holy life.”

With that, I wanna close, and I encourage you to please pray for us, and when you do, please remember us and thank you for this opportunity. May God bless you all.
