Faith Comes By Hearing is a non-profit, donor-driven ministry committed to reaching all people worldwide with the Word of God in audio.
Founded in 1972, the ministry records Scripture translations using indigenous speakers, making God’s Word available in the heart language of people – the language they use at home, in their community, and when praying.Millions of people can hear God speak their language. More than 700,000 Bible listening groups have been started in 150+ countries in over 700 languages, with new groups launching every day. Most groups use the Proclaimer, a self-powered digital playback device containing the entire New Testament on an embedded chip.

In 2010, the ministry released the Digital Bible Platform, combining the latest technology with the world’s largest resource of Audio Bible recordings and texts. The project includes Bible.is, a network of free mobile apps, which allows people to read, listen to, see, and share the Bible on their Apple and Android devices. In almost every country in the world, people are engaged in God’s Word through this endeavor, and, as it expands, millions more people will hear His Word anytime, anywhere.

Different types of listening groups now include villages or churches listening to a Proclaimer; home groups gathered around a computer; and individuals listening on their phone, even in the poorest and most sensitive countries around the world.

Faith Comes By Hearing’s goal is to record and provide Audio New Testaments in every translated language, making the fulfillment of the Great Commission a reality in our lifetime.

Beethoven’s – Ode to Joy

Deutsch: Portrait Beethovens mit der Partitur ...

We tend to get discouraged when trials and suffering come our way. In rereading on Beethoven’s own struggle with his hearing loss, despite his lows when he despaired and even contemplated suicide,  I was encouraged that eventually, the more profound his hearing loss became, the more he compensated for it by being more creative in his work of composing to the point that he was still able to compose music even when he was totally deaf. From Wikipedia:

Around 1796, by the age of 26, Beethoven began to lose his hearing. He suffered from a severe form of tinnitus, a „ringing” in his ears that made it hard for him to hear music; he also avoided conversation. The cause of Beethoven’s deafness is unknown, but it has variously been attributed to typhus, auto-immune disorders (such assystemic lupus erythematosus), and even his habit of immersing his head in cold water to stay awake. The explanation from Beethoven’s autopsy was that he had a „distended inner ear,” which developed lesions over time. Over time, his hearing loss became profound: there is a well-attested story that, at the end of the premiere of his Ninth Symphony, he had to be turned around to see the tumultuous applause of the audience; hearing nothing, he wept. Beethoven’s hearing loss did not prevent his composing music. Here is one of his songs that became s hymn sung throughout the world in many languages:

Ode to Joy

Joyful, joyful
We adore Thee
God of glory
Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee
Hail Thee to the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light of day

With light
With light

Mortals join the mighty chorus
Which the morning stars began
Father love is reigning o’er us
Brother love binds man to man
Ever singing march we onward
Victors in the midst of strife
Joyful music lifts us Son ward
In the triumph song of life

Symphony #5 First movement
