IRAN ( 1-7 iunie 2014)

Daniela Brudean's photo.
  • – se afla in S-V Asiei

Multe binecuvantari!

Today is the alternate International Day of Prayer – Open Doors World Watch List: Pakistan, China, Egypt, Nigeria, India, Iran, Central Asia – Video for each country from Open Doors

PAKISTAN:
Central Asia consists of 5 countries: Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Over 60 million people live in this region, but currently less than 10% profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Although the degree of persecution varies across the 5 nations, one factor remains consistent: Christians in Central Asia face constant pressure for their faith.

CHINA:
China, with a population of 1.3 billion people, has seen tremendous changes. These political, economic, and social changes have brought changes to the church, too. Sixty years ago, there were perhaps 750,000 evangelicals in China. Thirty years ago, there were an estimated three million. And today, conservative estimates of evangelicals in China range between 60 and 80 million. This growth, representing one of the largest revivals in the history of Christianity, came in the face of persecution…

EGYPT:
Egypt is one of the world’s greatest civilizations. The land of the Pharaohs. The birth Place of Moses. A place of refuge for Jesus as a child. Visited by the disciples Mark and Peter and the apostle Paul. One of the first nations to embrace Christianity. But 13 centuries ago Islam changed all that. Today, Islam is the official religion of Egypt. Christians are free to follow Jesus in this Muslim dominated society. However, this freedom has its limits…

NIGERIA:
The plight of Nigerians is often in the news. But the message is generally connected to the economy, oil and corruption. The sometimes-fierce battle between Christians and Muslims is rarely reported.

INDIA:
India possesses a population of almost 1.3 billion people, more than 80% of India’s peoples are followers of Hinduism, Only about 3% of India’s population claim to be Christians. These followers encounter growing persecution…

IRAN:
Today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is home to 75 million people, with 98 percent of the population adhering to Islam. At least 450,000 followers of Christ live in Iran. And while Christianity is an officially-recognized religion in Iran, in practice, many Christians face oppression from their neighbors. Christian believers in Iran continue to place their hope and trust in God. They ask for our prayers as they bravely share Christ with their families and neighbors. God is moving and the church is growing. Please continue to pray for God’s grace and endurance for the followers of Jesus in Iran.

An emotional update from Pastor Saeed Abedini’s wife, Naghmeh

If you have not heard the news, Pastor Saeed Abedini, who has been imprisoned in Iran’s notorious Evin prison since July 2012, has been moved to the most dangerous cell block in that prison. This is the place where prisoners are moved to before they disappear…he had been moved a half hour away to Karaj. Please keep this family in your prayers, for Saeed to continue his mission of evangelizing those he is incarcerated with and for Naghmeh to carry on, on his behalf, raising their children on fighting for his release. We are called to pray for our brothers and sisters who are being persecuted and help in whatsoever capacity to lighten the burden for them. (Find out how you can help here- Saeed Abedini sent to deadly cell block where people are sent to disappear

VIDEO by Save Saeed Naghmeh Abedini urges us to sign and share Saeed’s new petition, as well as join her in praying for her imprisoned husband.

Mission News Network reporting:

Iranian/American pastor is facing some troubling days ahead. According to the American Center of Law and Justice, Pastor Saeed Abedini, a U.S. citizen imprisoned in Iran because of his Christian faith, is being moved from Evin Prison in Tehran to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, which is even more dangerous.

According to the ACJL, Pastor Saeed faces life-threatening conditions and treatment there.

President of Open Doors USA David Curry says while this looks bleak, there is good news. „From that fact, we can gather that the Iranians are listening and paying attention to the advocacy from the United States.”

The ACLJ reports Pastor Saeed’s family members went to visit him at Evin Prison Monday, only to be notified that he had been moved a half hour away to Karaj.

The transfer comes as Iranians took to the streets to mark the anniversary of the takeover of the U.S. Embassy in Iran in 1979. The protests are a bit surprising, especially since many young people are disenfranchised with the current radical Islamic government.

Curry agrees. „There’s a growing need there and a growing desire amongst these younger generations in Iran and other Middle Eastern countries to see freedom come. That’s certainly what we’re praying for.”

In 2005, Loes Bijnen, a Dutch Diplomat from the embassy in Tehran, described Rajai Shahr prison:
„Rajai Shahr is the place where political prisoners who are seen as a nuisance, are stowed away. Going to Karaj is a severe punishment. Once in there, one stops to be a human being. One is put out of sight, even of human rights activists and the press. In Rajaï Shahr, political prisoners have to share cells with dangerous criminals like murderers, rapists, and drug addicts who don’t hesitate to attack their cell mates. They have nothing to lose: many of them are condemned to death anyway. Murders or unexplained deaths are a regular occurrence.”

Curry is encouraging you to pray for Pastor Saeed and other Christians in the same situation. „There are 100 million people in countries around the world living in fear for the faith. Not because they’re bad people, but because they call themselves believers. The western world is the exception.”

URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Pastor Saeed’s life is in grave danger. He has been transferred to a deadly cell block in one of Iran’s most obscure prisons—a prison where people are sent to disappear, he had been moved a half hour away to Karaj. Saeed Abedini has been held in prison since July 2012. (Read more about his case at the links below).

FROM ACLJ.org: Pastor Saeed’s life is in danger. He has been transferred to a deadly cell block in one of Iran’s most dangerous and obscure prisons. He is no longer sharing a cell with political prisoners but with murderers. Rajai Shahr Prison is where prisoners are sent to disappear – many are murdered at the hands of other prisoners.

PRAY that God gives Saeed the same courage He has thus far given him to withstand great bodily harm and the fortitude and faith to live under a death sentence daily, in Evin prison, one of the most notorious prisons in Iran.

Iran – Four Christians Sentenced To 80 Lashes For Drinking Communion Wine – 4 barbati au primit 80 de bice pentru vinul baut la cina (impartasanie)

IN ENGLISH:

FOUR Christians in Iran will get 80 lashes each for drinking wine during a communion service and possessing a satellite antenna.

The charges come as a United Nations report criticised the Islamic republic for persecuting non-Muslims.

Behzad Taalipasand, Mehdi Reza Omidi (Youhan), Mehdi Dadkhah (Danial) and Amir Hatemi (Youhanna) were arrested during in a house church in December. Taalipasand and Omidi were detained during the Iranian government’s crackdown on house churches according to the Christian Solidarity Worldwide.

The men were sentenced on October 6 and given their verdict on October 20 with ten days to appeal the sentence after breaking the theocracy’s laws.

Mervyn Thomas, Chief Executive of Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), said: ‘The sentences handed down to these members of the Church of Iran effectively criminalise the Christian sacrament of sharing in the Lord’s Supper and constitute an unacceptable infringement on the right to practice faith freely and peaceably.

‘We urge the Iranian authorities to ensure that the nation’s legal practices and procedures do not contradict its international obligation under the International Convent on Civil and Political Rights to guarantee the full enjoyment of freedom of religion or belief by all of its religious communities.’

The death penalty is among the punishments for those who convert from Islam to Christianity.

Ahmed Shaheed, UN special rapporteur on human rights in Iran, said that it is common practice for Christians to be punished for violating theocratic laws, despite promises from president Hasan Rouhani’s to scale back the harsh treatment.

In the UN report he wrote: ‘At least 20 Christians were in custody in July 2013. In addition, violations of the rights of Christians, particularly those belonging to evangelical Protestant groups, many of whom are converts, who proselytize to and serve Iranian Christians of Muslim background, continue to be reported.’

In response to the report, the Iranian government criticised Dr Shaheed’s findings.

According to the country’s state-controlled Press TV, an official from the UN mission said Dr Shaheed ‘has not paid sufficient notice to Iran’s legal system and Islamic culture and considers whatever he sees in the West as an international standard for the entire world’.

The Iranian government has cracked down on religious freedom in a bid to stop the increase of Christianity, seeing it as a threat to the country’s majority ultra-orthodox Shiite Islamic religion.

An estimated 370,000 Christians live in Iran according to the latest report from the US State Department.

The UN reported continued: ‘[Iran’s] authorities continue to compel licensed Protestant churches to restrict Persian-speaking and Muslim-born Iranians from participating in services, and raids and forced closures of house churches are ongoing.

‘More than 300 Christians have been arrested since 2010, and dozens of church leaders and active community members have reportedly been convicted of national security crimes in connection with church activities, such as organizing prayer groups, proselytizing and attending Christian seminars abroad.’

According to Foxnews.com, Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), chairman and founder of the Iran Dissident Awareness Program, said: ‘Despite the recent Iranian charm offensive, Dr Shaheed’s report reminds us of the true nature of the Iranian regime where the abuse of human rights continue.’

The stresses of Evin Prison and the Christian women imprisoned there

According to the Iranian Christian News Agency, Maryam Naghash-Zargaran (also known as Nasim) is an Iranian Christian convert currently serving her four-year prison sentence in the women’s ward of Evin prison.

ICNA reports that Nasim was transferred to Modares hospital on Sunday, September 29, to be treated for her heart disease. Having had heart surgery before, mental pressures in prison resulted in her heart attack, and as a result she was transferred to the hospital. As of now, there are no details about her condition.

Nasim also suffered depression due to inappropriate conditions in prison.

The 35-year-old Christian was first arrested in the winter of 2013 for „acting against national security.” On the day of her arrest, she received a phone call from the intelligence police on Vozara Street in Tehran. When summoned there, she was immediately arrested and kept for three days. Then she was transferred to Evin prison and remained there for 19 days. After that, she was released on bail.

Since the time of her arrest, security authorities have searched her house several times, confiscating her personal belongings as well as any Christian-related material.

Later she was called for her trial at branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran. There, Judge Mohammad Moghiseh sentenced her to four years in prison for „propagating against the Islamic regime and colluding to undermine national security.” She appealed the ruling but the appeals court upheld her sentence. Nasim was summoned to prison to start serving her sentence on July 15, 2013 in the women’s ward of Evin prison.

Her name previously had not been published among Christian prisoners in Evin, which raises speculation that there are more unknown Christian prisoners in Iranian prisons.

At the same time, reports indicate that three other Christian convert activists–Somayeh Bakhtiari, Ronak Samavat, and Nasim Zanjani–are still being held in prison. These Christian women had been arrested and imprisoned in the first half of the Persian year (March – September). They were accused of holding prayer and worship meetings in house-churches.

To counter non-Shi’ite religions in Iran, especially Christianity, the Islamic regime of Iran raises unfounded allegations against Christians, including moral and financial accusations, and spying for England and Israel.

Iranian judicial and security authorities have repeatedly tried to make up false allegations against Christian converts to pressure them and distort public opinion about them. Most of these false allegations are political and argue that house-churches are actually political groups which are in contact with/spy for foreign countries like England and Israel. In most of the Christian cases, Iranian authorities try to downplay the religious aspect of these cases and make them appear as political cases, in order to unmercifully sentence them and avoid international pressure.

It is interesting to note that just before President Hassan Rouhani’s trip to New York to attend the UN General Assembly, two Christian woman prisoners ,Maryam Jalili and Mitra Rahmati, were released together with a number of political prisoners and prisoners of conscience. The women had been sentenced to two and a half years in prison. When they were released, only one month remained on their prison sentence.

Two women released from Iran’s notorious Evin Prison, Pastor Saeed Abedini and Pastor Farshid Fathi remain imprisoned

While Saeed Abedini is writing a letter directly to thePresident of Iran, asking for his freedom, 2 female christian prisoners have been released from the notorious Ervin prison. See story below photo. Here are the details on Pastors Abedini’s letter from the ACLJ via BlackChristianNews.com:

American pastor Saeed Abedini, serving an eight-year prison sentence in Iran because of his Christian faith, is directly appealing to Iran’s newly elected President Hasan Rouhani for justice and freedom.

In a letter written to the Iranian president, Pastor Saeed, a U.S. citizen, called on the new president to follow through on his pledge of moderation and pleads for compassion and justice so he can return to his wife and children in the United States.
Pastor Saeed’s letter comes as the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), which represents Pastor Saeed’s wife and children in the U.S. and has been working to secure his freedom, launches a global letter-writing campaign urging President Rouhani to release him.
The ACLJ has launched a new website at BeHeardProject.com–a voice for the persecuted church. Iran (MNN) ― Two of the prisoners released from Iran’s notorious Evin prison are Christ-followers.

„We want to thank God that these two women, these two believers are released. That is wonderful news to receive,” says E3 Partners VP of Church and Ministry Partnerships and Middle East Strategy Director, Tom Doyle.

A few days ago, at least 11 political prisoners were released from Iran’s notorious Evin Prison. Among them were believers Mitra Rahmati and Maryam Jalili, according to Mohabat News. The women were sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for sharing the Gospel with Muslims and „being members of a Christian group”, the Mohabat article states.”It is a good sign,” Doyle adds, „but we know that Iran–their government–is very famous for kind of ‘pandering to the press’ when the pressure is on, and they’re feeling that right now.”

Iran’s moderate Islamic president, Hassan Rohani, is scheduled to appear before the United Nations General Assembly next week. Rohani is expected to deliver a speech and raise diplomatic favor.

With U.S. Pastor Saeed Abedini and Pastor Farshid Fathi among those remaining within Evin’s walls, the desperate need for prayer remains.”When I heard prisoners were going to be released, we certainly prayed, but it didn’t happen that two of the key ones were let go, so we need to just keep praying for them,” says Doyle.”It seems like they go harder after the leadership,” he adds, explaining that Abedini and Fathi are viewed as „prized possessions” by Iranian officials. „Pastor Saeed and Pastor Fathi had quite a network, and that’s what [officials are] trying to do: break up any kind of network and [its] influence.”locked up

Pray for their release. Ask the Lord to keep them safe during their imprisonment.

Naghmeh Abedini, wife of Iranian-American pastor Saeed Abedin who is imprisoned in Iran, speaks at Liberty University

Please listen to the 6 minute video at the bottom of this post, as Naghmeh Abedini talks about how she always feared she would question Jesus’ goodness, if she were to ever go through a big trial. But, she says, „..in that deep, dark night of despair, I reached put to Jesus, and I’ve known Him since I was 9, and I connected to Him in such a deep way that, not only did I not question His goodness, but I proclaim His goodness amd how awesome He is, and I got to drink of His goodness. He gave me strength to stand and He’s given me joy and peace.”

Naghmeh Abedini has been traveling the U.S. and the world for over 15 months to raise awareness of her husband Pastor Saeed Abedini’s unjust imprisonment in Tehran.

Saeed Abedini was arrested in the summer of 2012 while helping build an orphanage in Iran. He was later sentenced to eight years in Evin Prison in Tehran for “endangering national security.” He has served a year of that sentence already and has been beaten and told to give up his faith in Christ.

According to his wife, Saeed Abedini has stood strong in his faith and has led over 30 people in prison to Christ.

“The kids and I desperately want him back, but we are proud that he has chosen to stand up for his faith and to proclaim the Gospel in a dark prison and bring hope to those people,” she said. “To know that so many of the Iranian people are coming to know Christ makes it worth it. I know his imprisonment is not in vain.”

In June, Naghmeh Abedini had the chance to speak to the United Nations in Geneva, sharing the Gospel with more than 196 nations. The message was broadcast to more than 50 million Iranians.

“I pray that the Lord would awaken your desire to ask for nations for your inheritance and that you would be on fire for the Living God,” she said.

Vice President for Communications Johnnie Moore said Liberty believes the Great Commission is both for people in the ministry and in the marketplace.

“Missions is at the heart of the university and always has been. We do not believe that the Great Commission is for some Christians, it is for all Christians,” he said.

Liberty’s student body collectively represents all 50 states and 95 countries. Students and alumni are constantly engaged in areas all over the world, including the school’s ongoing Restore Rwanda campaign and several short-term mission trips through the Center for Global Engagement. Global Focus Week allows students to continue pursuing these options and become more involved in missions.

Good News from Iran – Pastor Robert Asseriyan has been released from jail

Via Mission News Network

Iran (VOM) ― Despite reports of crackdowns on Christians in Iran, there is one bright spot.

According to reports from Mohabat News and the Voice of the Martyrs USA, Pastor Robert Asseriyan, one of the leaders of the Assembly of God Church in Tehran, was released from prison. He had been arrested during a worship service at the church on May 21.

The Farsi services at the church–one of the last „building churches” that remained open in Iran–have been forcibly closed down by the police, according to Mohabat News.

It seems one of the conditions for Pastor Asseriyan’s release was his silence, as authorities instructed him and his family not to be interviewed by the media or to make public statements about his arrest, his 43 days in prison, or conditions for his release. The status of the charges against him is unclear at this time.

Often in Iran, Christians are released from jail after making substantial bail payments, but the charges against them are never dropped. In this way, police can pick them up at any time in the future and can use the unresolved case against them to pressure them to cease Christian activities.

Please continue to pray for Pastor Asseriyan and his family. Pray also for other Christians who remain imprisoned in Iran. You can write letters of encouragement to several of them through the Prisoner Alert Web site.

Pastor Saeed Abedini torture stepped up in notorious Iranian prison

As Americans, and as citizens of free countries we are having the opportunity to watch living martyrs and possible future deaths of Christ followers, something we had not seen before the advent of the internet, where information flows freely even from countries like Iran, which are tightly monitored and controlled.

By posting updates on Pastor Saeed frequently (and others in his situation), our intent is only to highlight the work of Christ, through the Holy Spirit, yet through dedicated men and women who have sacrificed their futures, and in many cases their lives, in order to proclaim the Gospel to those that have never heard it. Just like in the book of ACTS, the persecution of Christians fanned the Gospel into a wider and broader geographical area, and thus more souls were won to Christ. As we heard a North Korean brother say, here in this video, that when he saw the public execution of 2 young men and a woman who had brought Bibles into his town, instead of scaring him, it made him want to know this Christ of the Bible even more. This North Korean brother has now trained in the knowledge of God’s word and is going back and being a witness to his kinsmen, even unto death, if caught.

But getting back to Pastor Saeed, here is the update from the Christian Post:

Pastor Saeed Abedini Severely Beaten,

Fainting From Internal Bleeding

The American Center for Law and Justice received news that U.S. pastor Saeed Abedini has been severely beaten in Evin Prison in Tehran, denied proper medical care, and experiencing fainting spells.

„Pastor Saeed reported today that last week he was severely beaten when the prison officials took him to the hospital. During the weekly prison visit today, Pastor Saeed’s family reported that his physical condition is worsening – seeing first-hand the marks and symptoms left by the recent beating. These beatings and the internal injuries are causing Pastor Saeed frequent fainting spells,” the law group, which is representing Abedini’s wife and two children back in America, revealed in a statement on Monday.

The Iranian-born pastor, who converted to Christianity and was building an orphanage for children when he was arrested in Tehran last year, was sentenced to eight years in prison in January for „endangering national security.” The ACLJ called that a „sham trail,” however, noting that the real reason behind Abedini’s sentence was his faith.

Inside Evin prison, Abedini has been pressured to deny his faith in Christ, and even threatened that he will not be released after the 8-year sentence unless he does so, but the pastor has refused to recant his faith.

He has been suffering from internal bleeding because of the beatings, however, and his wife Naghmeh has expressed deep concern for his well-being.

Matthew 5:11-12

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Fara bucuria in Domnul noi nu putem trai.

Pastor Saeed Abedini, in lanturi pentru Domnul nostru Isus Christos
