Father’s Day Song – I Am Your Father ~ Brian Doerksen {Song For The Prodigals}

Rembrandt – The Return of the Prodigal

„See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God.The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him” (1 John 3:1). This passage begins with the command: „See.” John wants us to observe the manifestations of the Father’s love. He has introduced the subject of God’s love in the preceding chapter (1 John 2:5, 15) briefly discusses it here, and fully explains it in the fourth chapter. John’s purpose is to describe the kind of love the Father gives His children, „what great love.” The Greek word translated „what great” is found only 6 times in the NT and always implies astonishment and admiration.

Interesting to note is that John does not say, „The Father loves us. Instead, he tells us that the Father has „lavished” His love on us, and this portrays an action and the extent of God’s love. John has chosen the word „Father” purposely. That word implies the father-child relationship. However, God did not become Father when He adopted us as children. God’s fatherhood is eternal. He is eternally the Father of Jesus Christ, and through Jesus He is our Father. Through Jesus we receive the Father’s love and are called „children of God.”

What an honor it is that God calls us His children and gives us the assurance that as His children we are heirs and co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). In his Gospel, John also tells us that God gives the right to become children of God to all who in faith have received Christ as Lord and Savior (John 1:12). God extends His love to His Son Jesus Christ and, through Him, to all His adopted children.

When John then tells us „that is what we are!” he declares the reality of our status. Right now, at this very moment, we are His children. In other words, this is not a promise which God will fulfill in the future. No, the truth is we are already God’s children. We enjoy all the rights and privileges our adoption entails, because we have come to know God as our Father. As His children we experience His love. As His children we acknowledge Him as our Father, for we have an experiential knowledge of God. We put our trust and faith in Him who loves us, provides for us, and protects us as our earthly fathers should. Also as earthly fathers should, God disciplines His children when they disobey or ignore His commands. He does this for our benefit, so „that we may share in His holiness” (Hebrews 12:10).

There are many ways the Scriptures describe those who love God and obey Him. We are heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17); we are holy priests (1 Peter 2:5); we are new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17); and we are partakers of the divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). But more significant than any title or position is the simple fact that we are God’s children and He is our Heavenly Father.

Unusual Songs (8) Misty Edwards – The Caged Bird

One Thing 2011 Conference

Misty Edwards sings at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Missouri. Here’s a little bit about IHOP:-You can watch the prayer room live, 24/7 on God TV.  God TV Schedule on Locate TV For those who don’t get the Christian channel, watching online may be the only way to tune in, but even those who get the channel can still watch IHOP prayer room live online.  Just click here to access the site.  IHOP Prayer Room on God TV.

What Is the Prayer Room?

Central to the work of the missions base is our 24/7 prayer room, inspired by David’s tabernacle (1 Chr. 23:525:7), where 288 singers and 4,000 musicians were employed as their full-time occupation to minister to the Lord and serve the community. The 24/7 schedule is divided into twelve two-hour worship-based prayer meetings a day.

Scripture teaches that night-and-day prayer is crucial for the fullness of God’s power and purpose to be released (Lk. 18:7–8Isa. 62:6–7). We are offering Jesus unceasing adoration, while contending for justice and the power of the Holy Spirit to be manifest and bring transformation in every sphere of society.

The song is „Caged Bird” and it is based on one of Misty Edward’s favorite poems, which was written by  Gene Guyon,  in prison for writing on prayer and the Song of Solomon.

  1. A little bird I am,
Shut from the fields of air,
And in my cage I sit and sing
    To Him who placed me there;
Well pleased a prisoner to be,
Because, my God, it pleaseth Thee.
  2. Nought have I else to do,
    I sing the whole day long;
And He whom most I love to please
    Doth listen to my song;
    He caught and bound my wandering wing;
But still He bends to hear me sing.
  3. Thou hast an ear to hear
    A heart to love and bless;
And though my notes were e’er so rude,
    Thou wouldst not hear the less;
Because Thou knowest as they fall,
That love, sweet love, inspires them all.
  4. My cage confines me round;
    Abroad I cannot fly;
But though my wing is closely bound,
    My heart’s at liberty;
    For prison walls cannot control
The flight, the freedom of the soul.
  5. O it is good to soar
    These bolts and bars above!
To Him whose purpose I adore,
    Whose providence I love;
And in Thy mighty will to find

Unusual Music (4) Matt Gilman – Kiss my Heart (Song of Songs)

More unusual songs:

Wonderful song! Takes a strong man to sing this way about Christ. A song from Solomons Song of Songs.

From Matt’s Facebook Page: Matt Gilman has been leading worship since he was fourteen years old, having grown up in ministry with his father, a Lutheran pastor. In 2002, when Matt was a senior in high school, he arrived at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City (IHOP-KC) thinking he was just attending a conference about music, his favorite subject. “As soon as I walked into the building I knew this was different. It was not at all what I was expecting. God began to shake me to the core as He opened up a whole new understanding of worship with the Word of God. I knew right away this is what I was made for,” Matt explains, “Something was awakened in my spirit and I knew I had to have more.”

He returned to join the onething™ Internship, a six-month program for single young adults between the ages of 18 and 25, which is designed to be a season of consecration unto the Lord. Matt says the internship, which included up to 24 hours a week in the prayer room, was like a new world opening up to him, „the Lord would meet me there. I was searching out the heart of God and giving myself to concentration…The best part is that I was joined with a community of young people who were going after God with the same wholehearted abandonment.”

Matt’s musical creativity stems from one source, but comes in a variety of ways. He says that many times when leading in the Prayer Room certain lyrics or a melody will just come to him, providing the basis for a new song, but other times he’s had to sit for hours to write them. He believes it’s crucial for songwriters to have time set aside in their schedule to simply sit with their instrument and their Bible, and just sing the Word of the Lord back to Him. But sometimes, it’s just as easy as sleep, „The Lord may reveal a melody in a prophetic dream and I’ll wake up singing it. That’s what happened with my song ‘Closer’. The first line was given to me in a dream and I sat down at the piano to play it, and the rest of the song just flowed.”

Matt is motivated by a desire to see people grasp the reality of who God is, and believes this is crucial in order for them to continue in the faith. „It’s imperative that this generation become fascinated by God. I want my music to provoke my generation to be fascinated by God. I want them to know His beauty. ”

Unusual Music (3) Healing Waters

Today’s unusual music video is from Freddy Hayler. What makes it unusual is that he stops in the middle of the song and prays for the sick to be healed and also the fact that Freddy Hayler says that he visited heaven. This song is one song of many that he composed about what he saw in heaven. For more information on the artist click on the link: http://www.freeevangelism.com/testimony/freddy_hayler.htm He has a truly beautiful tenor voice and has produced some of the most beautiful compositions I have ever heard.

Unusual Music 2 – Misty Edwards – The Harlot

YOU MUST LISTEN TO THIS VERY UPLIFTING SONG TO THE END.

This song is based on  John 7:53-8:11– the story of Jesus forgiving the  Harlot (the woman caught in adultery). You can read a commentary on it here at Bible Gateway. And you can listen to a John Piper sermon here.It is a very poetic song of redemption of the bride of Christ. It has an unusual subject, and is an unusual title for a song. The other thing that is very unusual is the length of the song – 27 minutes (Believe me the time goes pretty fast if you identify with and meditate on the fact that we were all the harlot until the Lamb of God took away the sins of the world-mine and yours. Misty Edwards sings at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Missouri. Most of her songs are spontaneous songs. This means she just sings them and plays the piano without composing them beforehand. Here’s a little bit about IHOP-

Lyrics here- THE HARLOT

I’m broken,I’m wounded, I’m wretched and ashamed
and the harlot is like a chain around my neck, it’s my name

she sings the song of humanity , the song of you, the song of me
(they drag her through the city square, dragging her by her hair
she’s kicking screaming and fighting ) X 2

I’m broken, I’m wounded, I’m angry and afraid
and the harlot is like a chain around my neck, it’s my name X2

she’s faced down, this tangled hair every where, as she’s crying in the dust,
as the dust turns to mudd on her face
this tangled hair every where as she’s crying in the dust
face down. Open up, o open up, o ground beneath me
how long does it take to stone one harlot down
i know the laws well as they do and i’m guilty, guilty
an adulterer, and i know, i know O will this day never end
how long does it take to stone one harlot

I’m broken, I’m wounded, I’m wretched and ashamed
and the harlot is like a chain around my neck, it’s my name
(as a congregation of the righteous gather round
they are ready to stone her down ) X2

and someone from that frenzy marches shouts out
let’s take her to the teacher,
let’s test him and see what he will say
in an eruption of aggreementas they are taking her by her hair
they drag her through the city square
they are dragging her by her hair
she gave up the fight like a *****
they drag her through the city square
dragging her by her hair, she’s faced down

I’m broken, I’m wounded, I’m angry and afraid
and the harlot, is like a chain around my neck, it’s my name
it’s who i am,open up, o open up, o ground beneath me,
it wasn’t supposed to end this way but i am guilty
and i know it, i’ve got so many plans so much to dobut
now it’s too late, guilty and i know it
face down
-what’s he doing-
as a congregation of the righteous gather round
they are ready to stone her down, they throw her at the feet of a teacher
dare i look up ?surely they have brought me here to mock me
this tangled hair every where as she’s crying in the dust
as the dust turns to mudd on her face
this tangled hair everywhere she’s faced down in the dust
in the muddand there is a hush, and a congregation
-what’s he doing-time stands still-

as the court of heaven was seated
there is a great throne of judgement
and there is the harlot and she is me face down
looking through the tangled hair and the mudd in my eyes
i raise my gaze only to realize
i am surrounded by beauty that will never be mine
as regret like a wave came crushing over me
if i had only known that such beauty was available
if i had only known but now it’s too late

and the accuser of the brethren was pacing back and forth
and back and forth and to and through
has he spilt out his words, he was going back and forth and back and forth
he was listing off my sins one by one
and the thing was he was telling the truth
guilty guilty guilty guilty
and the great count of witnesses
and the angels o the angels looked on the scene
as the accuser of the brethren was going back and forth
glee in his eye guilty guilty guilty guilty
and resound to the corridor of eternity in time like a thunder in my soul
he was right i was guilty guilty to eternal damnation
for my soula nd there was nothing i could, nothing i could do,
face down, face down, couldn’t even open my eyes,
the regret was so strong there’s a hand on my shoulder,
a hand on my shoulder and i hear a voice, like music in my ear
dare i look up ? , i couldn’t lift my eyes
but all i saw that beautiful feet, and i hered that voice like music,
music to my soul, he said , Father I desire that she will be with me where i am,
show her my glory Father I desire this one,
this one she is mine, she is mine , she is mine
He was praying for my soul , he was pleading for my behalf
he was praying for me, i couldn’t comprehend it,
i couldn’t understand what was going on
Father I desire that everything that’s mine would be hers
and everything that’s hers would be mine
Father Father I desire this one, this one,
she’s mine she’s mine she’s mine
and all the heaven gasp in belief and i opened up my eyes
and i watched in wonder, this beautiful one stood to his feet
I looked up and there was a great trone and there was the father
and he had a cup of wrath with my name on it
it had my name on it and i was just about to rise to drink
guilty guilty guilty, but i watched in unbelief this beautiful one,
he walked on to his fatherand drank of the cup
and before i knew what was going on he drank of the cup
he drank of the cup, he drank of the cup of the father’s wrath
he drank of the cup of the marriage wine
he drank of the cup with my name on it
he drank of the cup and all the blood..
i jumped to my feet and i ran over to him and it was too late
i tried to stop him but i didn’t know it was too late
and all the blood all the blood , and all the blood
it should have been me, and i was weeping and weeping
and i ran over forgetting where i wasand i fell down face,
down down and o pleased Father crush him, but it was too late ,
i began to plead it should have been me ,
it should have been me but it was too late,
why did he do it but it was too late and all the blood X4i
was weeping, weeping and crying it should have been me,
it should have been me face down, why did he do it ? X2
it should have been mewas weeping and weeping,
why did he gave his life, all the bloodwas weeping and weeping
and i heard a whisper like music”what’s yours is mine and what’s mine is yours”
i looked to the left, i looked to the right,
and i was on a sea of glace like crystal
there was a great great congregation dressed in white
from every tounge, from every tribe, from every people
and the music began and a celebration erupted
and i opened up my eyes, and there was the lamb,
although he was slain and i was at a wedding and i couldn’t believe my eyes
and i was dressed in garments, garments of beauty
and the music erupted and the angels sing
halleluja halleluja the choir has broke out
and i looked out and saw the lamb with eyes like fire
radiating, radiating with desire and he said what’s yours is mine
and what’s mine is yours
arise and sit on the throne, prepare for your beauty,
rise beauty rise, beauty rise and we say with one heart and one voice,
worthy is the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world
oh worthy is the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world
worthy is the lamb of God yeah, who takes away the sins of the world X2
we will marry the lamb, halleluja, we will marry the lamb forever amen
and worthy is the lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world
worthy is the lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world
halleluja halleluja ,
there’s going to be a wedding, there’s going to be a wedding ,
there’s going to be a wedding yeah
people get ready
what’s yours is mine and what’s mine is yours
who can comprehend where this is going
he said beauty arise, arise, arise

Unusual music

More unusual songs:

Worship music comes in all forms. Not all songs are edifying. Some are biblical, but the music is loud, fast, etc. But, the great news is that most worship songs  are indeed  very uplifting. I’ve decided to feature some of these unusual songs I come across when searching music videos, in my free time. For someone who played one or more music instruments, like myself, I love and delight in music. One thing I can’t delight in , though, is if the words are not Christ honoring. So, sometimes I may feel uneasy at the loudness of the steel guitars (and yes, there are rock songs that I can’t/won’t listen to at all) or I feel totally uneasy at the dancing that some listeners display (sorry, but when it looks like sensual  dancing, I can’t sit and watch, that just does it for me). So as I start posting songs, randomly as I come across them, please keep in mind that I do not agree with everything in these videos and perhaps sometime (not too frequently) I will even post some that I totally disagree with to make my point.

So here’s the first by Jesus Culture from their „Your love never fails” album available at http://www.jesusculture.org And if you happen to like Jesus Culture, here is one more song „I NEED YOU MORE”.

Powerful words!

Holy Lyrics
Jesus Culture

Just one look on your face
Just one glad of your eyes
My whole world is changed
My whole world is changed

All I seek, only to see your face
I don’t wanna go anywhere without you God
Without your presence
Oh, let me see your face
The beauty of your holiness God
Take me in to the holy place

And only one word comes to mind
There’s only one word to describe
Only one word comes to mine
There’s only one word to describe

Holy, holy
Lord God Almighty

There’s no one like you
You are Holy, holy

While I’m waiting – from Fireproof

John Waller

I’m waiting, I’m waiting on You Lord
And I am hopeful, I’m waiting on You Lord
Though it is painful, but patiently I will wait
And I will move ahead bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience
While I’m waiting I will serve You
While I’m waiting I will worship
While I’m waiting I will not faint

I’ll be running the race even while I wait
I’m waiting, I’m waiting on You Lord
And I am peaceful, I’m waiting on You Lord
Though it’s not easy no, but faithfully I will wait
Yes, I will wait

And I will move ahead bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience
While I’m waiting I will serve You
While I’m waiting I will worship
While I’m waiting I will not faint
I’ll be running the race even while I wait

I will move ahead bold and confident
I’ll be taking every step in obedience, yeah

While I’m waiting I will serve You
While I’m waiting I will worship
While I’m waiting I will not faint

And I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting on You Lord

I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
I will serve You while I’m waiting
I will worship while I’m waiting
