In awe of God’s Creation – Retezat Mountains of Romania with 85 glacial lakes – Coplesit de Creatia lui Dumnezeu

The Retezat Mountains (Romanian: Munţii Retezat) are one of the highest massifs in Romania, being part of the Southern Carpathians. The highest peak is Peleaga (Vârful Peleaga), at an altitude of 2509 metres. Other important peaks are Păpuşa (Varful Păpuşa) and Retezat Peak (Vârful Retezat). The Retezat Mountains have many glacial lakes, including the largest glacial lake in Romania, Bucura Lake (lacul Bucura), which covers 8.9 ha and is situated at an altitude of 2030 metres. The area also contains the Retezat National Park, Romania’s first national park.

The topography and beauty of Romania makes it one of the top Eastern European destinations of western Europeans. Even Prince Charles has bought several properties in Romania, and he vacations there several times a year.

Retezat Mountains

The Retezat Mountains are the most important massif of the western group of the Southern Carpathians. The Retezat Mountains are made up of mostly granite massifs. The highest peak of the Retezat Mountains is Peleaga reaching 2509 m. There are 82 lakes in total, including Romania’s largest tarn Bucura. Lolaia waterfall is one of the best known in Retezat. The Retezat mountain ridge resembles a gigantic stone fortress.Botanists can be enchanted by a wide variety of wildflowers growing in their natural ecosystems. Extraordinary limestone outcrops can be found in Little Retezat. Sky-scraping peaks, deep ravines and glacial cirques decorated with tarns as well as pristine forests are the most important assets of Retezat, which can be proudly called as the Princess of the Southern Carpathians.

Retezat National Park

Established in 1935, Retezat National Park is the oldest of its kind in Romania. More than a third of glacial lakes in Romania are located within Retezat National Park. The existence of more than a third of the Romanian flora species is one of the reasons for which this area has been declared a national park. The forests cover nearly half of the Retezat National Park area. Because of its outstanding natural values and habitat management, Retezat National Park has become a PAN Park in October 2004. PAN Parks Wilderness area in Retezat provides homeland for all the iconic species of a first-class Carpathian wilderness. Since 1980, Retezat National Park is included in the UNESCO’s network of Biosphere Reserves. Retezat’s Biosphere Reserve is not inhabited, thus belongs in the wildest of its kind.

John 1:3 – All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Hebrews 11:3 – By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

Genesis 2:7 – then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

Romans 1:20 – For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
