Open Doors World Persecution Watch List 2014 (new – VIDEO)

The World Watch List (WWL) is a ranking of 50 countries where persecution of Christians for religious reasons is worst. First of all, the list covers persecution of Christians of all denominations in the entire country. The focus is on persecution for their faith, not persecution for political, economic, social, ethnic or accidental reasons.

The 5 countries in which Christians are persecuted the most are:

  1. As in the last 12 years, North Korea is #1 as the state where Christians are persecuted the most. Tens of thousands of Christians are imprisoned, gruesomely tortured and have to do forced labor.Being discovered as a Christian in Kim Jung Un’s  North Korea is virtually the same  as a death sentence.
  2. Somalia – Christians do not have the right to live in Somalia. Islamic extremists are insisting that  the country remain a Moslem country, with not room for Christians and Christian churches. A believer in Christ who is discovered has to fear for his life.
  3. Syria – Before the civil war, the country was  regarded as a place of peace for Christians in the middle east. But with the war, many militant islamic  groups have come from abroad and joined the so called free syrian army. Christians are being targeted, attacked, threatened, abducted and killed.
  4. Iraq – Hundreds of thousands of Christians have fled the country and attacks on churches and their people continue. Even in the Kurdish regions, in the north, once a refuge for Christians, aggression towards Christians is on the rise.
  5. Afghanistan – There is not a single ‘official’ church building in the country. Moslems who become christians face massive persecution by relatives and government officials. The goal of islamic extremists is to expel or kill all Christians.

The price for living out the Gospel in Somalia – A Christian mother of 2 kidnapped by Islamic militants

You don’t have to be front and forward in order to pay the price of following Christ in Somalia. A young woman, wife and mother, who had become a follower of Jesus was kidnapped by Islamic militants, sexually abused and her entire family threatened with violence. According to neighbors, they did not know much about the family, just that they did not attend the mosque during Ramadan time. (Photo credit proclaimingtruthinlondon.org)

Mission News Network:

Somalia (VCM) ― Islamic militants suspected to be from Al Shabaab have kidnapped a Christian mother and threatened to attack her husband because of their faith.

According to reports from the Voice of the Martyrs Canada, three masked men abducted Shamsa Enow Hussein, 28, outside of her home in Bulo Marer, Lower Shebelle Region, on August 5th. Her husband, 31-year-old Mohamed Isse Osman, received a text from her that night urging him to evacuate. „Please leave immediately because of what we believe,” she said in the text. „They have abused me sexually, saying I am an infidel.”

Mohamed has also received anonymous threatening text messages from the kidnappers, including one that read, „Your wife has told us all about your Christian involvement, and soon we shall come for you, too.” Mohamed and his two daughters, aged 3 and 5, have moved to an undisclosed location. A religious leader in the region claims that Osman has had no contact with his wife since her text on August 5th.

Like most Somali Christians, Shamsa and her husband are secretive about their faith. According to one resident of Bulo Marer, locals are aware of Shamsa’s abduction but have no idea why it occurred. „What little we knew about (the) family was that they were not very committed to attending the mosque during Ramadan time,” he said. Somalis consider themselves Muslim by birth and regard Islam as a significant part of their cultural identity.

Officials estimate that Somalia is close to 100% Muslim. Apostasy, or the leaving of Islam, is punishable by death.

Pray that God will preserve Shamsa’s life, bringing her safely back to her family. May they sense His comforting presence throughout the turmoil. Also remember in your prayers other Somali believers who are fearing for their own safety and that of their loved ones. Ask that the Lord will not only provide His protection but also bless them with boldness as they speak the truth in love.

25 year old christian man decapitated in broad day light in Somalia for his faith – Crestin decapitat in strada in Somalia

Vocea martirilor raporteaza: despre un tanar de 25 de ani l-a primit pe Hristos in 2010. Farhan Haji Mose avea un business in Somalia si mergea des in Kenya.

Somalia (MNN) ― As if in answer to the capture of 300 Al-Shabaab members last month in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, the attacks on civilians have gotten more extreme and more public.

The latest attack came last Friday when Islamic extremists brutally murdered a Christian in the city of Barawa, in broad daylight. Voice of the Martyrs USA spokesman Todd Nettleton explains, „In this case, it is a 25-year-old man named Farhan Haji Mose. He apparently became a Christian in 2010, out of a Muslim background.”

Nettleton goes on to say that Mose „had a business in Somalia which required him to travel to Kenya. It’s thought that he met Christians while he was in Kenya, received the Gospel, and received Christ.” Muslim extremists then tracked Mose for six months, to confirm his Christian activity before catching him and accusing him of being a spy and leaving Islam, Christian and Muslim witnesses said.

Al Shabaab members caught up with Mose in the coastal city of Barawa in Somalia. He was accused, and convicted by the impromptu „court,” while a crowd assembled to witness the sentence that comes with an apostasy conviction. Nettleton clarifies that „in the minds of a radical Islamic militant, these people are apostates. They’ve left to follow another religion. The just punishment is execution.”

Mose was summarily beheaded, and then his body was desecrated as a warning for others. „Their goal is to rid Somalia of Christianity,” notes Nettleton. The number of Christians who have been tracked down and murdered has been growing over the last couple of years. What’s more, he adds, is ominous news that the religicide isn’t held to Somalia’s borders. „We’ve heard reports that Al Shabaab literally has a list of people they are looking for who are suspected of having left Islam and being Christians.”

Peace on earth? Not until Christ returns…unless you are a Christ follower

Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace !

Isaiah calls Jesus Christ the Prince of Peace in Isaiah 9:6 – For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

While Luke tells us that the angels proclaimed peace on earth amongst the peoples whom God is pleased with:

Christians can have peace through Christ !

  •  Luke 2:14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”.
  • Also inRomans 5:1 the apostle Paul states: Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Also in John 16:33 Jesus states: I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
  •  And in Philippians 4:6-7 -And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
  • In John 14:27  Jesus states: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you

But, His kingdom is not of this world…

Yet, in John 18:36 the apostle John writes: Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” and Isaiah refers in 2 different verses to the time of peace when Jesus will reign as King over the earth.

  • Isaiah 11:6 -The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
  • Isaiah 65:25 – The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

…so, without Christ, the world cannot / will not have peace !

While Christians around the world get ready to celebrate the birth of the Saviour, here’s a brief, yet important example of a life well lived (to the end) that is Christ-honoring, an example from a man named Juma Nuradin Kamil.

  1. Persecution– Romans 8:35-39

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? As it is written,

    “For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  2. Perseverance – 1 Corinthians 16:13
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong.

SOMALIA

2 Thessalonians 1:4

Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.

Pray for the country of Somalia, a country that is predominantly Muslim (99.67 %) and a profession of faith in Christ is punished by death (decapitation). According to Voice of the Martyrs, there are only about 4,000 Christians in Somalia in a population of 9.9 million people, so you can understand what a tiny minority the Christians are and therefore very vulnerable to persecution. Here is a story of a faithful man, who persevered unto the death, death by decapitation – Juma Nuradin Kamil. He rightly understood what the Apostle Paul meant in

Philippians 1:21

For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Matthew 16:26

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

The following is the report published at Voice of the Martyrs:

Christian convert beheaded

A kidnapped Christian convert from Islam was found decapitated on September 2 on the outskirts of Hudur in Bakool region, in south-western Somalia. Juma Nuradin Kamil, who embraced Christianity about three years ago, was kidnapped on August 21 by three suspected Islamic extremists from the al Shabaab terrorist group. Muslim extremists from al Shabaab, a militant group with ties to al Qaeda, have vowed to rid Somalia of Christianity.

Sources believe the kidnapping and subsequent manner of murder suggest that al Shabaab militants had been monitoring him. „It is usual for the al Shabaab to decapitate those they suspect to have embraced the Christian faith, or sympathisers of western ideals,” a Christian leader said. „Our brother … was determined in his faith in God. We greatly miss him.”

Pray for Juma’s family and the grieving Christian community. May they rest in the knowledge that the Good Shepherd walks with them through this difficult time. Ask the Lord to protect believers in Somalia and deliver them from harm. Pray that the perpetrators will repent and turn to Jesus Christ.
